BTW Fellas, BEWARE of FAKE JM proof markings! I have encountered a couple on sites that sell use Marlin's to try and fool potential buyers. They usually look pretty phony and are not the correct fonts, quality or size. If it isn't the right marking - walk !

He must be their only inspector ever... I have never seen one with another name

If you can determine that it was made prior to 2007, via serial number, then you have a JM Marlin, even if it missed the JM proof mark.
