My German peep sight markings have me somewhat confused. I think I've figured out the windage markings: L = Left (links), R = Right (Rechts?). But the elevation knob markings are H and T, and I can't figure them out. My German-English dictionary isn't much help. And the threads are so fine that turning the knob a couple of turns doesn't seem to result in any movement of the sight staff. Any German linguists out there?

Cyrano:

English is tough enough for me but from "babelfish.yahoo.com" translator, I found:

higher/taller = "hoher" so H is solved.

I couldn't find anything for lower (shorter, smaller, etc.) that fits a German word that starts with T, though.

HTH,

Chris

Chris, I looked in the non-electronic babelfish; my dictionary. Couldn't find anything under 'up' or 'down' that fit either.

Cyrano, I don't read German, but I do own several German made target rifles; Anschutz, Walther... etc

For European target sight, the general rule of thumb is : treat the knob as the lid of a jar, if you want the shots to move up; unscrew the knob, turn it counter clockwise ( T on your sight ) to move the shots to the right, again unscrew the knob, ( L on the sight ) and vice versa, just remember to turn the konb toward where you want your shots to go.

I should add, if its a Englih made sight such as Parker Hale, then its the other way around, to move the shot up, turn the knob down; clockwise, same with the windage, turn the knob in to move the shots right.

Hope this help.

OK, it's easy for me. I gues the H and T is written on the elevation-adjustment.

By "Made in Germany-Scopes" like Zeiss, Schmidt&Bender, etc. it's often marked where are the shot hits the target,
in relation where it should be placed. It tells you the way you should turn the adjusting-screw,
if the POI is (H)oeher=higher or (T)iefer=lower than the POA.

Maybe it works the same at your new sight.

If it's not that way, it shows you how the POI will change, if you turn the adujstingscrew in the direction of H or T.
POI be will (H)oeher=higher than before, or (T)iefer=lower than before.

Hope this helps
