Have seen photos of stunning S&Ws with various wax jobs done.

I've never used any of it. Yet.

Which is 'best' and why?
How to prep for it?
How to apply?
Where to purchase?

The best is Renaissance wax bar none. Clean the gun, apply with index finger, let dry to a haze and rub down with a cotton cloth. Easy as pie. Found at gunshows or you could google it and have it sent to you.
Also pretty good, but not quite as good as Renaissance is Johnsons Paste Wax for floors. Get it at Lowes.

I agree with this post. A jar of Renaissance will last a life time. I also used it on table saw and band saw tops to keep it from rusting. Don

renaissance wax...bar none...the top gun museums use it because it's the best...it can easily be found on ebay..NRA museum also has it...you can also use it on marble, documents, photographs, etc.a british museum formulated it to protect valuable things such as guns..once applied it can be reversed (removed) with no underlying damage to the item....some waxes leave a yellowish color but not renaissance...yep..i use it and it is a great product!

Apply it with the tip of your finger and spread it thin. Cover all of the metal surfaces, and wait till the wax turns milky white, just like old fashioned paste car wax. Then, with a very clean, very soft cotton rag, buff it off a little at a time, constantly turning the rag. Actually, I use two rags -- a nubby cotton shop rag, and then I follow up with an old well-laundered tee-shirt.

You'll know when you're done as there will be no more visible wax on the gun, just the mirror-bright finish you're looking for.

One of the great things about Ren Wax is that after you've applied and buffed it out, the gun will show no -- zero -- fingerprints, at least for a while.

Bullseye

This sounds good, but what do you do before and after you do the wax. i.e., do you clean all oil off the gun before the was? How? Do you oil, or anything after?
Is this for using guns?

Read my first post, I said clean the gun well with whatever solvent, apply wax, buff, and then there is no need to oil afterward your gun is protected with WAX.
