Any one using the Vortex Strikefire red dot

I have read quite a few good reviews from people on here that use it. My buddy is going to get one and when I get the money I probably will too.

Picked one up and went to the range today. It was sunny with a fresh layer of snow so it was very bright outside. I had no problem seeing the dot but it could have been a touch brighter, my 15-22 has a cheap NC Star red dot which was brighter but it also has a larger dot. It's listed as a 4 MOA but it looks closer to a 2 MOA. But again it was very bright out lots of reflection of the snow and I could still see it fine. It held zero for 200 rounds with no problems. Now for the bad news after 10 rounds it went out totally dead and none of the controls would respond. I checked the battery connections for an obstruction 5 rounds later it was back on. It seems that mine was defective from the factory with a short in the power system. It was on and off all day, I stopped at Gander Mountain on the way home and exchanged it. I can't say it's a *** yet as even the best products occasionally have defective units. Like the Leupold VXIII on my Weatherby 300mag that had a defective reticle it was replaced and has been fine for the last 18 years. If however I go to the range next week and have any other problems it would have to be more than a rare defective unit in which case I will return it and post on every Internet forum what a *** it is stay tuned.

I got the defective unit replaced and changed to the red only it is brighter as advertised. It worked flawlessly held zero though 200 round today. With the supplied mount (which is really solid) it is a perfect cowitness with my iron sights. It is listed as a 4moa dot closer to a 3 IMO. 1/2 moa click vs 1 moa with the red/green. So far it seem solid and a good value.

What kind of iron sights do you have on yours and is your mount a cantilever mount?

I too have had excellent results from my red only strikefire on my sport. Good value for a reasonable price.

Just FYI, you resurrected an old post, and the user you are querying hasn't been on since June of 2012, so don't hold your breath on a reply.
