Benchrest

Can any of you recommend a good and reasonably priced benchrest for me to use with my M&P15 OR?

Thanks

Actually the best and cheapest rest I have found is a good ol' sandbag. Use a couple plastic sacks for a liner, fill with some sand and put them in a sandbag. Easily adjustable and making a couple, covers about anything you want to bench rest. Also very easy to replace.

If your just resting the front you can get a Rock Jr. for the front and sandbags for the rear. I find that works very good for an AR. I right now am using the front half of a Caldwell NXT. Its plastic but solid. and I have a rear bag and a small rectangle Sandbag. I use this for most of my rifles except the ones with Bipods, which presently none are wearing.

I bought some cheap Redhead shooting bags and filled them with popcorn kernels. Works great but I have to keep them dry.

It's a pretty small opening. Do you put a bag inside like you would a household garbage can then fill it - close it - then Velcro the external bag?? Curious.

I have a large canvas ww2 mail sack that i filled with silicone beads from a packaging company here, it works perfectly for everything i need...

I'm considering getting a 20-round, or even a 10-round magazine for work with a bench rest.

My own rest just doesn't go high enough to clear the 30-round magazine very easily, and the bench rests at the range don't clear it at all as there is a connecting frame between the front and rear rests that's just too high and in the wrong place.

Magnetik..thats a sweet set up, the rest looks like a led sled only black

I use my 20's for shooting off of the rests all the time, depending upon the rest sometimes I have to use a 10rnd Mag

Thanks. I actually couldn't use the bench for a while since I only had 30rd mags and couldn't find 20's. Brownells has been such a disappointment for me but Westfork came through with some 20rd Lancer mags that worked great. The only negative thing I can say about the rest is the bolt that keeps the front and back rests together. It literally just sits in the hole and falls out if you don't secure it. I went ahead and locked it down with a nut and bolt. I also rigged up a 1.5" ram mount so I can carry the bench and spotting scope at the same time. (I go shooting by myself a lot so I need to think about these things. :) )

I dont know if you have thought about them, but I use the Thermold 20's, I also have some metal ones. I bought a bunch of thermolds a year ago. I sold the 30's, I didnt have a problem with them but I didnt like them. I use the 20's all the time. Now I am not runnin and gunnin and dropping my mags on the ground. But for my style of shooting those cheap old Thermold 20's are great. If your doing tactical stuff where you hit the mag release and let them hit the ground they may not hold up and I have dropped a couple even fully loaded and they didnt break. Just a thought.

I also prefer 20's and 10's at the range. Not only for bench shooting but shooting in general. I find the rifle is more balanced somehow. So all my 30's (pretty big supply) stay loaded at home you know...in case the wheels fall off the cart. ;)
