Colt announces new 3 inch Python

The only announcement I've seen is at Davidsons and even then you have to search for Pythons. They don't show them on their home page. This makes me wonder if they're going to do these as a special project for Davidsons rather than as a routine production item. They are not on Colt's website.

I think it's grand that Colt will survive into the future and continue to make revolvers. I'll stick with my 2.5" and 3" M686+s thank-you-very-much (never mind the 4") but it is nice to see the wheelgun business still moving along this far into the 21st century. Good for CZ-Colt! ;)

Since no one has linked a pic yet...

Looks nice... I had no real interest in the new Pythons, but I might have to take a look, because this 3" is interesting.

I have the 4", and it's stunning. I like the 3" looks as well, although I'd probably be jumping faster for a 2.5", just personal preference.

The original python snubby was 2 or 2.5 wasn’t it? I wonder why they went with 3 inch on these new ones?
The 2 1/2" was the production barrel length

Here is mine. It is an Ultimate Stainless Python wearing Hogue Kingwood grips

Just like there are Distibutor Exclusive offerings of unusual S&W configurations, the same holds true of Colt's

If I recall correctly, there were two slightly different runs of 3" Pythons over the years. They were only availble in blue or nickel and they command EXTREMLY large amounts of cash to purchase today.

I am looking forward to acquiring one of the new 3" Stainless Pythons.

Full length ejector rod for complete case extraction?
No,
The Colt revolver design did not have the engineering issues that Smith & Wesson had

The ejector rod issue on the 2 1/2" barrels and shorter was due to Smith & Wesson locking up at the nuzzle end of the ejector rod. That bolt, spring and pin at the front of the ejector take up more than half an inch

2 1/2" Pythons have full length ejector rods

I have an OM 357 trooper , it's as close to a python as I will probably ever get . I'm not sad about that . I have a real nice S&W 686 , 4" that was a officers carry for many yrs . It does all I need . If I want a 357 snub , I nave a model 19 , 2.5" barrel that fulfills that role nicely . I applaud Colt for getting serious about the revolver business . I wish them all the best . Regards Paul

The Python was built on the original model Trooper, so you probably are not missing out on much other than the weight that comes with the full under lug barrel and vent rib of the Python. I have found the 6 inch Python to be more than heavy enough and the 8 inch Python is unwieldly.
