CZ 75 Compact

I have several CZ's. a Mannlicher bolt 308, a 75B, and this compact SPO1. Had a Shadow SPO1, but a worker who was part of a team doing some renovation at our home a few years found it and took it, and my wife's hidden cash stash.

Bought the smaller compact a few years go, used, with 5 mags. It is a superbly accurate pistol, shooting precisely to my POI. But the trigger was painful, so much so that I didn't like shooting it. So sent it to Cajun, who installed an older style trigger, with new pins or something like that, and whatever the small difference in the original and the replacement trigger is, it makes all the difference in painless shooting. I don't recall ever previously having a painful trigger, but it was but now is a really sweet although slight heavy pistol. A bit heavy for carry in UpState in the summer, in shorts.

The CZ Kadet .22 conversion kits are also an outstanding product. Although they have gotten pricey. I think the Kadet II kits will work on both the full size and compact models, they come with two different slide stops that have slightly different dimensions depending upon which donor frame you are using.

I have a 2000 vintage Kadet Kit that I use on my 1994 CZ75 "Pre-B" gun and it is a lot of fun and quite accurate. It is an all steel device so the weight & balance doesn't appreciably change and better than something like a Kimber or Ciener unit on a 1911 frame.

I like to shoot CCI Stingers in it, you get a nice blast & flash but about zero recoil. It is a bit more accurate with good old CCI Mini Mags and 100% reliable with pretty much every high velocity brand I have tried.
I like the Kadet Kit installed on the SP01, but not so much on the aluminum frame from the P01 Omega. I looks and feels oversize and heavy on the compact alloy frame. The pic is from when I was comparing it to the Model 41.

I've found that neither Galco or El Paso lists CZ75's in their catalogs. The CZ75 Compact appears to be about the same size as a Colt Commander. Anyone have any Galco or El Paso holster experience with their CZ compacts?

I have the Italian version the TZ75, a clone made by Tangfoglio. BTW the TZ's have a reputation for a tighter build and better accuracy but I got mine because it was on sale used in unfired condition for only 400 bucks. Nice gun but the ergonomics are NOT optimum for older hands. Basically there is not enough serrated surface to get a nice secure grip like can be done with a 1911. The other issue is the DA trigger pull. Out of the box it was over 15 lbs. Pulled the mainsping and shortened it by 1/16 inch and now it has a 12.5 lbs. DA pull. Have 2 spares so at some point I'll do some testing to find the misfire point with Remington UMC but suspect that it will finish up needing more than 10 lbs.

Basically they are in interesting and very accurate design but IMO a well set up 1911 is superior.

They will not fit. I have several El Paso 1911 holsters and the trigger guard on the CZ is to round or big, however you want to call it.

I searched a bunch and the best looking ones that I found, I bought online from Craft holsters. They are actually made to the gun, not just a size 4 or whatever for a variety of similar sized guns. If i remember they are in the $90 range, but at that time they gave you get a discount on your next order, I think it was 10 percent at the time. Shipping was 4-5 weeks. I have a SAO steel frame compact so I got a thumb break holster for it. For the PCR with the Holosun, I went with the open top. Both holsters are very well made and they actually carry good, if that makes sense. The holsters are stamped Falco, I image Craft is just a distributor.

An SP-01 Phantom lives next to my bed with a combination light and laser on the rail. I also own a Baby Desert Eagle which is another CZ-75 derived design. It's the original model with polygonal rifling.

El Paso Saddlery will build you a holster for about anything. I have two they made for my CZ85 Combat. If you don't see your gun listed on their website give them a call. That is what I had to do some years ago for my then new Ruger flattop as it is a bit smaller frame than the regular Blackhawk.

I've been a CZ fan a long time and have owned several of their guns and always liked the CZ75B. I also owned the original small frame EAA Witness which was my "go to" defensive handgun for 20 years and foolishly traded it. I bought a Tri Star clone a few years ago for well under $400 brand new and it seems every bit as good as the CZ 75 and will interchange with all its parts. I put on checkered walnut grips and a Cajun GW spring kit in it and it now has an excellent DA and SA trigger and is very accurate.

CZ are Great.
Pistols
Carbines
Shotguns
Rifles
Me likes them All!

I have been a CZ75 afficianado since the time everyone else didn't know what they were missing. This was back when the only ones you would ever see were the ones that returning GI's would bring back from Rod & Gun clubs and then would end up in a lgs or pawn shop. They couldn't be imported from Czechoslovakia as that country was still communist but were imported from other countries in limited quantities. I prize my made in Czechoslovakia models more than the Czech Republic models. The last CZ's that I bought were a 75D and a RAMI. Just wasn't the same and down the road they went. I'm still looking to add one more and that would be what I call a first variation CZ75.

Has anyone replaced their barrel bushing with the CGW offering? If so, did it actually improve accuracy as CGW claims? I'm on the wait-list for one with CGW, but would appreciate some experienced feedback. -S2

I've had two of those CG bushings, one on a PCR that David had built. The other I bought and installed on a 75B.
The one I installed did not seem all that much tighter than the original. I could not tell the difference by feel, but if I put it barrel in both and let it hang, you could see the difference.
This 75B was always quite accurate, enough so that I occasionally shot bullseye with it. The new bushing did not improve my scores. But I don't see how it could hurt, and it's still on the gun! That gun was also more accurate than the PCR.

I love CG's parts, and have converted over half a dozen guns, mostly for friends, with no disappointments.

So, there I was, watching some videos on the CZ 75 Compact when one of the YouTubers states that frequent dry firing of that gun will break the roll pin.

OOPS!

WHOA!!!

I had only done it a few times but I stopped that practice immediately. I have Snapcaps somewhere that I can use! Until they turn up - no more dryfiring!

another thing CZ people do is use o-rings to keep the hammer from hitting the firing pin. you will hear just about everyone who does this say "and remember to take the o-ring out or you will get a click instead of a bang, don't ask me how I know"

I have been using caster-bands, they are used for de-nutting and you can find them in a live stock supply or of course online.
I have never broke one, they are very tough and I simply slide them over the hammer. it does not effect the trigger pull and keeps the hammer a long way from the firing pin.
They are very easy to see and I have yet to forget taking it off, so no click here.

I cry every night I miss my PCR so bad, can not wait to get it back from CGW. The closer it gets to receiving it back from them the slower time goes.

I never did write a range report for my CZ 75 Compact. It performed well but we were shooting so many guns that day I didn't make any notes or keep any targets. Maybe next time.

BUT! I was sufficiently satisfied with its performance that I carried it a couple of nights ago whilst meeting a group of friends in what I consider to be a "hinky" part of town. I concealed it under a loose "Aloha shirt".

David at GCW made this the most unbelievable double action I’ve ever shot. Yeah it’s heavy, but between the CGW package and putting a green fiber sight on it it’s near perfect. These are great guns; never a single failure since I’ve owned it.
