Monday morning I purchased my normal monthly coffee stash - four, 30 ounce bags of Eight o'Clock Columbian Peaks ground coffee. Amazon has sold that item for $14.54 per bag for well over 2 yeas now. The 4 bags /month lasts us just about that time. Not only are we huge coffee lovers but we entertain al lot. I usually have a bag or two as a back up, but I had been procrastinating and waiting to put together an Amazon order.

Tuesday evening one of our neighbors who always raves about our percolated coffee every time they are here, went to order a few bags on her computer. She said to me, "I though you said it was $14.54/bag of 30 ozs"? I said, yes I just ordered some the other day. She showed me the price and it was #21.99 - up from $14.54 the day before. WHAT?!! 50% INCREASE overnight!!:mad:

I went on my own computer and looked at the "buy it again" option and yes it had gone up 50% overnight!!!:mad: WOW - talk about inflation! What gives?? Is there a coffee shortage I didn't hear about?

My experience had been that coffee is volatile in price and we have experienced the same type of spikes. We tend to buy in large quantities now just because of this issue.

4 - 30 oz bags a month is a lot of coffee. We go through about 24 oz a month. One pot a day and 2 on weekends.

I would definitely shop around to see if the price increase is across the board. you might get one more purchase from another retailer before the increase.

Amazon doesn't always have the best prices.
Our local Walmart has this in stock right now...

Looking around the internet a bit, among price increase reasons are droughts in Brazil and Vietnam, supply chain disruptions due to the conflicts in the Middle East, and impending regulations in the EU requiring importers to certify that their sources are not exacerbating deforestation.

Amazon plays tricks with their pricing. Different people may see different prices depending on what they think they're willing to pay.

There are also a lot of goods listed on Amazon by third party sellers. Sometimes at good prices. Sometimes not so much. You have to watch out when you buy from those third party folks. Some are less than honest, although the few times I've been burned Amazon made it right (eventually.)

Well the local Giants in SE PA are still selling the smaller packet at $4.99 due to a $3 discount. I clean them out each time I go. If I remember correctly 8 O'Clock was the original house brand of A&P. I found it to my taste when I first came to the US as a post-doc in 1968 and have been keeping a stock ever since. Dave_n

8 O’Clock was originally one of the A&P house brands for their coffee. There were several others which I do not remember. When I was a kid, A&P had the only supermarket in town. I remember the bags held unground roasted coffee beans, and they had a coffee grinder in the store you could use to grind it as fine as you wanted. Or you could take it home and grind it yourself if you had a coffee grinder. I believe A&P no longer exists, at least not under that name. Definitely not in my part of the country.

Bokar and Red Circle were the other A&P house coffee brands. I guess that they were other bean varieties or blends. A&P ceased operations in 2015.

We entertain quite a bit and coffee is always on the menu. We have tried less expensive brands and the eight o'clock Columbian Peaks is our all time #1 choice.

Amazon sells products and there are vendors who sell the same product also on Amazon. You need to watch whom you buy from. I learned to pay attention. You can send products back to Amazon also.

Amazon’s food prices are bizarre. Often they’re 3-4x higher than local stores, for no apparent reason.

I like Aldi’s German roast coffee. Cheap and with good flavor.

No kidding. I have seen price multipliers more than 4-6x on some items sold at the H-E-B store just down the street from me.
