9mm Snub-nose

I think Charter Arms makes one. No need for moon clips either.
I have a 9mm Charter Pitbull that started life as a snubby. Later I had a 4" "Canadian Compliant" barrel put on by Charter. I'm completely satisfied with it although, being brushed stainless, it's a PITA to clean after a trip to the range. The fact that it doesn't use moon clips is what sold me on it. Charter recommends using only brass cartridges.

FWIW, Headspace on my 940-1, is grossly excessive without the moon clips. So the S&W requires the moon clips for reliable ignition. Headspace with both Rugers is well within spec without moon clips.

Not a snubby, but I had a 7-shot 686 cylinder converted to 9mm. Interesting, and it works, but I can't claim it's a very practical conversion...

I've had one for a year or so and like it very much. Handy and reliable, it's my favorite snubby right now - edging out Smiths, Colts, Charter Arms, and Ruger revolvers.
Taurus can clean up nicely and have great triggers. Only thing I don't like is their transfer bar and lack of rebound slide. Just because they seem to rattle. They are really putting out a good catalog though, S&w should take notes.

My 940 vintage '92-93 seems to be trouble-free as I can't recall any issues.
Have shot 115s,124s 147s and can't recall noticing an issue. Have carried hunting as snake protection with rat shot. Super smooth trigger and takup.

Is a bit awkward to carry spare clips discreetly. Have carried spares in HK speedloader pouches and in pocket in a single clip cover.

Whose front sight are you using on yours?...
XS - they make them pre-drilled now, and that's the way to go.

I had a lovely no-dash 940 one time: had it tuned and bead-blasted (I got it from the estate of a gun dealer, and it was his ankle gun and looked the part) and shot over 2k rounds through it, which got me used to 9x19 in the five-shots. The Ranch Products moon clips I was using sure were better than the floppy-and-less-secure ones Ruger uses on this re-vamp of the SP101 in 9mm (which friend Fastbolt refers to as the "Ladies' Model" :D ) - I got to where I could almost throw the Ranch Products moons into my 940.

Should have never traded that off. :(

I was pleasantly surprised with my LNIB model 651 Taurus .357 snubby - My pawn broker friend almost paid me to take.
I would not consider owning a revolver without a hammer - but this ones hammer is shrouded - but still has a knurled tab to cock for S/A. I also prefer THESE Wood grips to rubber, noticing no greater recoil - only better grip + NO snag in pocket.
Turned out to be one of my favorites.
For those who've never seen one - Here is MY antique H&R Defender in .38 S&W (another favorite).

I, too, was holding out for a nice Model 940 at a reasonable price, but finally gave in & went with the SP101.

Not a bad "compromise"...

In my experience "S&W 940" and "reasonable price" do not go in the same sentence.

This is my 940 set up, took me a while to get everything the way I wanted it. Loved the sights on the S&W UC's, so I had my gunsmith install them, Crimson Trace Laser grips (don't necessarily use or need the laser but I love the way they feel), Milt Sparks Summer Special for IWB and Kramer for pocket carry, I found this split 5 moonclip carrier from Safariland and it works great. I also have a Galco Scout that clips on the waistband if I'm wearing shorts that have a drawstring. The sights turned this gun from a 7 yard gun to a 15+ yard gun. Loaded up with Federal 147gr HST's and it addresses my needs.

I guess that I've never really understood the need for a 9mm snubby revolver. With the huge selection of .38 Special and .357 Magnum ammo available (from range to high performance, as well as those specially designed for short barrels), is there any advantage to 9mm? Don't get me wrong, I have several 9mm pistols that I use for CCW and competition, and the 9mm is a great round. I just don't see a need for it in snub nose revolvers. Educate me, please.

Just got the S&W 940 ad. On the email it says it's a Davidson's exclusive. $999.00 is a bit stiff for me, but considering I paid almost $900 several years ago for my 617-6...
The 2 1/7" (2.13"?) barrel is a bit different for j snubbies. Rear sight looks like Novak no-snags, and a tritium front, so those are good.

I just ran a gun genie...... 869.99 shipped to my FFL.... they have over 90 available

Comes with replaceable night sights ( front and rear) and VZ grips..... not stiff from my point of view.

I'm just not a 9mm revolver guy
