Value of a S&W Model 1 1/2

I have a Model 1 1/2, second issue I believe, correct me if I'm wrong.

I inherited this pistol along with several others and have spent some time learning what each pistol is to the best of my ability.

I want to sell this pistol so am trying to get an approximate value, retail/wholesale, I realize it's difficult to tell and my pictures aren't the best but any guidance would be appreciated.

It is serial number 55xxx, the barrel and cylinder show some bluing loss, maybe 50%, the frame is excellent maybe 5% loss. A gun store guy says it locks uptight, hinge shows very little movement. Bore looks good but dirty. I've had this in a storage trunk since about 1975, my Uncle owned it before that maybe since the 20's, don't know. The grips are not original, I believe he made them from antler or bone?

Any semi-informed guesses?

Well, working off two pics of the left side, no WAG here. I would have to find some orig. grips. And some more pics. The finish makes it an entry level collector piece. Lets see what the other guys say.
 
Similar guns that I've sold in the past couple years went in the $200-$275 range, but with S&W grips. There's a lot of this model out there, so they are not difficult to find. Blued guns are harder to find than nickel plated specimens, however. What material are the grips on your gun made from? Ed.

Dang, guess I was hoping a gun of this age and condition would go for more than that :(

Seems I saw a couple on Gunbroker in the 600-1000 range.

Oh well, Ill try and get some additional pics up later today.
 
Mike, There's several different styles of correct hard rubber grips for this model, depending on the serial number range. A minty pair, with screw, will usually bring close to $100 on Ebay. There are usually sales tables at our annual Symposium with an assortment of original hard rubber grips for older S&Ws, and dealers like Lee and David Carroll may have some on line.
Dreamweaver 52, The ones selling for $600 plus will have 99% original blued finish remaining. Condition is everything when it comes to values.

Mine had wood grips,though it was also nickel plated.

As stated,condition means everything.Age isn't as important as many think.
It's also a common model.All of that factors into value.Kinda like the coin world.
 
Hello Mr. Weaver, they made 100,800 of this model . They have not surged in value like the modern shooters. They had their day and the wave has moved on. I find them absolutely fascinating. But Im in the minority and am old. Just put it away and appreciate it. Best.
 
That's a nice looking gun. What's it worth? I don't know. If I saw it laying out for $300 I'd pay that pretty quickly. I even have an unopened box of 32 rim fire from the 1920's. That looks like one you might try to shoot. I think it's 32 rim.

Opoefc, I've never seen a S&W tip-up model 1 1/2 with hard rubber grips.

I thought the grips on this model were originally made of rosewood ?
 
Maybe Ed was thinking "New" Model 1 1/2, which was a 32 Single Action. The 32 SA had three different stock designs throughout production. The Model 1 1/2 Tip-Up 32 was available from the factory only in rosewood and ivory as far as I know.
