Hi
There has been a thread about the Mexican Model so I will post the Story of the Mexican Model and the person who sold then for the Factory.
See attached Below.

Jim, thank you for posting that interesting narrative.

I have also seen the numbers 2901 and 3000 as total Mexican production. Do you know if there were subsequent supplemental shipments to Mexico?

David
I don' know if they were more or not. Only Roy could tell That.
I have also heard the 3000 number but I don't have any proof
of that being correct.

Hi
Well I guess I need to post the rest of the story about the Mexican Connection.
This is the rest of the story of how Rex Applegate got into the follow on gun business in Mexico. Based on this account I would have to say that the Mexican shipment was
only 2000 guns.
Enjoy the rest of the story.

Rex Applegate was "the most interesting man in the world!" to coin a phrase now seen in Dos Eches TV commercials. He could keep you entertained for hours with stories of his escapades in the OSS and Mexico, etc. He was the idea behind another S&W rarity, the Mercox dart gun. Rex came to my aid in the Korean War when the Army assigned me the task of teaching knife fighting, which I knew little about, until Rex sent me some training aids and copies of his book on the subject. Ed.

Jim, Thanks for posting this piece of information. Until now the only information I had about the Mexican Model was the short exerpt in the standard catalog. This should be in the notable thread index for future reference....

You have an oustanding example that looks to be in new condition. I assume this is one that may not have made the trip south of the border???

Thanks again....great piece of information about the man and the gun.

I am happy the second page of Applegate's story was added. I lived in Laredo for a couple of years in the early 1990s, and truly there is no place in the world quite like it. Smuggling (in both directions) was a highly developed art form there. I haven't been there in over ten years, and with the narco cartel wars across the river, I don't plan to go back anytime soon.

Hi
Well it looks like everybody liked the story about the Mexican model and the man
that made it happen. Now how about the rest of the story about the man
Col. Rex Applegate. The article was written by Roy Jinks after Rex died in 1998
and I agree with Roys comment "A one-of-a-kind-man" (A True American Hero)
Enjoy the Article

Here is one of the guns that I own made special by Smith & Wesson for Col. Applegate.

Jim,
A fabulous gun- thanks.

Is the box original, and if so, how is it MARKED?

I carry an Applegate/Fairbairn folder whenever I have my pants on. Applegate was a true American In that old game, "If you could have dinner with anyone from history, who would it be?" He would be my choice.

Very interesting documents, thanks.
Steve
