The LGS had this in their show case. Been wanting a Victory Model, but never bought one as I thought the price was to high, or the revolver was beaten up, or it was not the right time. Today it looked good, the finish was nice and it was the right time.No military markings except the Ordinance Marking (Bursting Bomb) in front of the lanyard. Please look at the pictures and give me your thoughts.

Better pictures of S/N and Ordinance Stamp

That's beautiful! I can't quite make out the serial number but it seems to be 767 XXX. If that's correct it's a very late production gun.

Guy

Sorry about the first pictures, not overly good with a phone camera. Here are better ones.

Nice acquisition.

Here's my closest example, just a few thousand earlier and "U.S. NAVY" marked.

Your stocks look almost identical, with regards to color and texture, to a later example I have that shows very little use at all.

I think you did rather well with your example.

Someone refresh my memory, would an early DSC (unmarked topstrap) example show an actual shipping destination other than some generic DSC delivery point?

I don't have any DSC examples so I'm a little rusty on the particulars of them. Just wondering if a factory letter would give any more specific info as to destination other than a same/same DSC address.

Of course I am assuming AJ's example may be a DSC revolver, but once again I am very uninformed with regards to the particulars of them.

Here's my Navy marked Victory. It is in the same range of serials as AJ's and tentex's. IIRC they stopped the Navy stamp around this manufacturing period.

Does yours have a bursting bomb forward of the lanyards?

Happy Birthday, Marines!

AJ

Happy birthday to all my fellow Marines as well!

No, my s/n V162601 "U.S. NAVY" marked example does not. The only examples I have with bursting ordnance bombs on the butts are:

s/n V219624 "U.S. NAVY" marked topstrap

s/n V274223 "U.S. PROPERTY G.H.D." marked topstrap

Yes the right side stock is stamped matching. (If you are referring to my example showing very little use with similar stocks to your example.)

My only Victory example that does not have matching stocks is my first "U.S. NAVY" marked example that I ever bought. (s/n V219624) It has a rather large crude "HDL" carved into the right side stock which is non-matching s/n wise......but not too terribly far off considering how many were made. Most likely swapped out while still in service during cleaning, maintenance, etc., but who really knows for sure?

It was found at a small gunshop not too far from where I live and I've often wondered who HDL is/was. (The only gun purchase I've ever made with my wife standing right there watching the deal go down. :p)

Pulled the grips on the Victory. The right hand grip is S/N'd to the revolver. That makes the same S/N showing up on the frame, the barrel, the cylinder and the grips.

The same s/n should also be on the rear facing flat of the yoke, as viewed through an empty chamber.........as well as on the backside of the star extractor.

Most likely all is right with your example's serial numbers considering it's fine condition.

And if you ever want to know if your removable sideplate is original to the revolver then the assembly number stamped on it's backside should match the assembly number on the frame and yoke. I'd bet yours is good to go as well.

The serial number on my V162601 example's stock didn't get stamped quite as nicely as yours! :p

Looks like they did a better job on V274223's minty stocks though.

Yes, on the yoke and the star extractor. I looked and able to see both.

Maybe someday I will get ambitious and take the side plate off.

Disclaimer........I do have one "probable" with regards to my matching stocked Victory examples.

s/n V79366. It looks like whoever stamped the stock thought one "6" was good enough or they missed the stock entirely with the punch?????

Oh well......can't win'em all.
