I try not to complain. But it can be very difficult to control what is an obvious addiction when you work at a good LGS.

As some of you know, as a retired ol' lawdog, my 'retirement job' is 3 days a week at a fairly large, well-established LGS. I've been doing pretty good controlling my addiction and withstanding temptation as it stares me in the face nearly each day I work.
Just told my wife last week when I took delivery of a nice M28 from a forum member here (thanks Ray!) that it was 'bittersweet', due to it being my 'last gun', for a long, long time. (she did just smile....)

Then today at work, fella comes in, tells owner he's 'gotta sell a dozen or so guns'. Guys and I go out to his vehicle, help unload the vehicle, bring in, clear and line up. Owner and he settle. Some nice Smiths in the group.
M57 4", M17 6" and a M14 6".
Word spreads quickly. M57 is sold before it can be logged in. I know another customer that will be coming in later to pick up a transfer. He is one of the no-budget guys that will buy any decent S&W he sees.
Figure if I'm ever gonna snag a M14, I better do it now. It's a 14-3, almost perfect, no box or papers.
Boss made me pay $350. (would've been happier with ~$300)

And I had been doing so good.

Much junk gets talked on the forums about LGS clerks. Try to remember it's not easy.

Looks like a very good score on that Model 14. At $350 you can't go wrong! Well I guess this will be the last one 'til....

Great score! I would be happy to visit your LGS, especially if I can pick up guns like that for $350. :D

Just think of it as an "investment" while you enjoy cleaning your new revolver and preparing for a range trip. ;)

You made out like a bandit, but then you already know that.:)

Back in the late 1970s, I was out for a ride on my motorcycle and came across a gun shop about 40 miles from home that I didn't know existed, so I decided to take a break there. While looking over the handguns in one of the display cases, I saw an 8-3/8" Model 14 with a price tag on it of $114.95.

It was brand new with the shipped protective still on it. The gun shop owner told me someone ordered it in several years before and never came back for it, so he was trying to sell it for the balance owed plus a few bucks for his trouble but wasn't having much luck as no one wanted that long of a barrel on a .38 Special. I gave him every cent I had in my pockets as a deposit, rode home for the rest and went back for it.

I shot it a lot but sold it about 20 years later when someone offered me $500 for it! According to that person, there weren't many 8-3/8" Model 14s made. I never checked to see if that was the case but then, I bought it because I had never seen another one and to this day, I have only seen one or two others.

That's one of the reasons I do not work in gunshops. I'd be broke and divorced...or shot dead with my latest gun purchase!!

But you did good. And tell your wife you showed great discretion because you didn't buy ALL of them!

Earlier this year I traded a 19-5 nickle gun and some $ for a really nice 3T 14-2. The 14 is way more accurate than I will ever be and makes the big brother of my quad K-22 masterpeice collection 17-4, 48-4, 16 no dash and 14-2. You will love shooting that gun.

Old Corp you did very well. The 14's are just great. I could never work in a gun store. I would be in the S&W poor house before payday.

Enjoy your new find.

regards

Bill

AT $350 you have a heck of a boss! My Uncle has a gun store and has 5-6 retired LEO's, come bankers, etc who woek for him. They basically leave there pay checks at the store every week.

I mean its like putting a junkie in charge of a pharmacy, I would be in big finacial trouble if I worked at a Gun store, for sure......

I would probably pay to work at a gun store just to have first pick. Seems like I always show up a day late and many dollars short around here.

Now I know......

Why I can never find anything decent at any LGS!!! Nice revolver and a real good deal. You should have a lot of fun with that, enjoy. It would be a financial disaster for me to work at a GS.

That is a beauty, for sure! I bought a used Model 14-3 with an 8 3/8" barrel about 10 years ago from a good friend's father who owns a gunshop. I ended up buying 2 guns from him that day. A Model 14-3 8 3/8" barrel and a factory nickeled Model 19-2 with a 6" barrel . Still have and love them both and you will love the Model 14.

Congrats on your acquisition.
