I was recently lucky enough to pick up a 36-1 3" barrel. Love it! Right out of Dashiell Hammett!

I'm struggling with the tiny grips, but I like them. (No desire to switch to a monogrip, etc.)

Can I get advise on correct grip/hold for single and double-action firing?

Grip as high on the backstrap as possible and curl your pinky under the bottom of the grip. Use the weak hand over the strong one and hold tight. Visit BK Grips, a Forum member, for a substitute for the Tyler T Grip. His product is cheaper, better quality and delivered in a timely manner.

This is what I do:

Assuming you are a right handed shooter, place the distal joint of the trigger finger on the trigger, to ensure it is placed correctly for DA shooting. Wrap the right thumb around the back of the pistol and curl it down to keep the knuckle away from the cylinder release under recoil. Curl third and fourth fingers around the grip tight, then curl the right pinky around the bottom of the butt. Now place the left hand over the right with all four fingers in a position which feels natural and firm. My left pinky usually curls down under the butt with the right pinky. The left thumb doesn't really have a place in my grip so I leave it hanging off to the side (I call that my aimin' thumb :D ). Some people curl the left thumb around the back of the gun. This creates a very strong grip, but don't use it with a semi-auto!

The overall grip should be high on the gun and very firm. Larger rubber grips and grip adapters are available if you can't get comfortable with the stocks.

Excellent advice already given! I have fairly dinky hands but found the standard grips were just too small to get a good purchase on, so I opted for a set of Craig Spegel's grips. They feel wonderful, give me a much firmer hold on the gun, and they look pretty good, too. Might be something for you too consider. I am NOT a fan of the Hogue Monogrip, most of them are far bigger than they need to be.

Thanks. I can't wait to practice. I see what you mean about the release latch. It was jabbing me on every other shot. I didn't remember that happening on my old model 60. Then I remembered that that particular handgun had a MIM replacement latch. Apparently just the little bit of difference in the shape of the latch made a difference. Maybe that's why Smith did that in the first place?

I will seriously consider BK Grips. I love the old-school look of this revolver. The T-grip would only enhance that. I'm apt to buy one just to have it on hand.

Sorry about the Browning in the pix. I just use it as a paperweight.

I agree you should try the BK grip adapters. I have them on my 36 and it makes a different gun out of it. Kip is a great guy to deal with and has a quality product. They are also on my 13-3. I like the look on the 36 too. Classic. Good luck. Nice photos thanks for sharing.

The 3 inch 36 is a great shooter, but the grips are pretty small.

Here's mine with a Tyler T. It makes for a nice grip. The BK would work just as well.

Cooter has the right idea - the Tyler "T" Grip is the answer to these little Magnagrips. All of my K Frame guns wear a Tyler T. Makes all the difference in the world.
