I had picked these up on a K frame a year or so ago. As not original Smith I took them off and tossed them in a drawer. Drug them out tonight and looked at them.

They have marks inside, clearly saying India, square K frame, and the company logo. Looks like D 61. Any chance that could be a date? Have they been around that long?

Found they have a website showing rosewood model like this. I love the finger grooves, work nice for my hand, but not a fan of the rounded bottom if I am shooting from a rest. Anyway website shows "same" pair for $70 without the checkering/carving.

What are they worth (you can see some dings in them)? I guess I could refinish them if they were "worth" something.

Thanks

The 61 is likely a part or catalog number, not a date. Eagle used to be called Art Jewel Enterprises and their older grips carry an "AJE" stamping, not Eagle.

They look like cheap Indian knockoffs worth about $20. The pairs you see without checkering or carving on Ebay are probably American made Hogues and go for about $70.

I'm betting you're probably right on the knockoffs. The INDIA plastered on them does not give me much confidence.

They're Eagle scrolled finger groove grips, look closey at the bottom inside corner of the right panel, states "Eagle Grips" right on it. Sold new for about $60

Real Eagles don't carry the Eagle stamp. They are stamped AJE.

All Eagle Grips are made in either in India or in its Carol Stream, Ill., factory. The ones stamped AJE were a semi custom line collection made by Art Jewel for Eagle, hence AJE (Art Jewel for Eagle).

Flint Ridge, they're decent grips if the fit is good (sometimes a problem with imported stuff like this, as some of the guys buying the Thai grips nowadays are finding out). If you were interested in selling them, you could probably get $40-$50 for them, based on what I see them go for on the auction sites.

Good info on the grips. I bought a 651 a while back that had the same style grips as the OP with similar marking on the inside. I also just purchased some grips and one set for a SB J frame are smooth ebony which has a sticker on the inside stating, Handcrafted in Philippines for aje. I put them on the 651 and they look pretty good and fit well.

The India is the country of origin of the rosewood.all true rosewood will absorb the oils from your hand and darken over time.you can speed up this process by hand rubbing pure mineral oil into them. However unlike Brazilian which can turn deep red in color, Indian seem to turn dark brown with little red showing. At least the current ones offered by Eagle now.

Must be cabin fever. I didn't realize this thread was over a year old. I had googled for info on the aje grips and the post came up and I just jumped in. I think I will grab a Bud and watch some Wildcat basketball.
