Been dabbling in guns for about 25 years and counting and have certainly seen the prices of our "distractions" rise, but I found myself asking why in the world are Model 60s so darned expensive? Played hookie today so dropped by a few of my favorite haunts (LGS'). In one, I saw a really nice, pinned "MOD60" with all but perfect "banana" grips. Sticker price on this beauty (no box, doc, etc)? $600! Now I'm sure I could get it for closer to ~$525 OTD, but the trip home got me to thinkin'.............why are those darn things so expensive...........and seemingly on the rise?
Thanks in advance for chiming in.

Just had major service done on my other "distraction".........its the labor, not the parts.

I think your getting a dose of what the older gun guys have been saying............they remember when a model 28 was 2-3 hundred bucks.......now your seeing it,what use to be a 3-4 hundred model 60 is now 5-6 hundred....ahhh the good ole days,

Small is the big thing in concealed carry these days. Just look at all the pocket pistols that have come out in just the last few years.
And like Dick said, lots of new folks getting permits these days.

I just recently finished a spread sheet listing all my handguns with their pertenates. Just in case I don't live forever my wife and daughter have an idea as to their worth. I listed my 60 no dash purchased new by my father at $750. Too much, maybe and I might have let my feelings enter into it but if I live a few more years I don't think I'm too far off.

New shooters and CCW holders are learning that there are few if any more ideal combinations of simplicity, rock-solid dependability, power and concealability than a J-frame. I'm a 640 man myself, but the 60 runs a close second.

But to this and other similar posts, these guys aren't looking to buy $600 concealable snubbies. It wasn't that long ago that I (we) were able to buy Mod60s in the box for ~$450! The real trouble is...............I'm trying to talk myself into buying the darn thing!!!:(

I'm glad I bought mine back in the good old days when they were so cheap. Ha Ha. I paid close to $170.00 at a gun store and they let me make payments over 6 mths. I likely made all of $6.00 an hour. That was a fortune for a young cop with a house payment of $201.00 a month. So like they say,
it's all relative.

Model 60 price

In May of 1971 I joined the PD and wanted a 60 for off duty. Paid $96.00 for a new one, new in the box. I still have it, box and instructions. A great gun and it has been in about 40 states with me. Have not fired it in years, I did put a Tyler T grip on it.. Smith & Wesson automatics have become my carry guns now.

I'm more a Ruger guy but looked for a 60 for a long, long time before I found one at the right price. At $600.00 they're way out of my league.

As you know, many in IL are just now getting the itch for a CCW gun and it seems the 60's pricing has really helped the .38 Special LCRs you can get in the $400.00 range brand new. That extra $200.00 buys a good amount of ammo or range time.
