I thought the "flat latch" (thumbpiece) was a characteristic of the J-frame guns?

My 12-2 has a flat latch, and the style doe not really "trip my trigger". Looking at comparable 10-5, the thumbpiece mounting system is completely different, making a conversion not simple process.
Yes, from the early 1950s until 1966, both I frame and J frame revolvers used the flat latch (three different variations). They were also used on some airweight K frames.

My Model 12 is a flat latch but I dont mind it,
If a standard thumb latch wont fit to the flat latch bolt you will probably need to replace the bolt as well, The bolt is the part inside the gun that the latch screws down to ,
I havent ever tried swapping them so cant help you there but if you have another K frame at home its a quick project to swap them.
Current production angled latches are not much better than the flat latch IMO so I prefer the older style.
