N607xxx falls in the 1979-1980 timeframe. Likely yours would be 1979, as the 3-1/2" barrels were discontinued that year, and I have a M29-2 that letters to July of 1979 with a N6628xx SN. The stocks on your revolver are not factory or original, although they look really nice. The other numbers you see in the yoke cut are production line numbers and inspection stamps that have no bearing for anything else. If you take those stocks off, there will be more stamps on the butt frame sides, and the SN will be on the bottom of the butt.

All in all, you've got a great looking M27-2, the 3-1/2" barrel is highly desired and brings a 20% premium in value. You also have the target hammer and target trigger, which became standard on M27-2's from 1975 to 1980.

A set of factory Target stocks would have been standard, they look like these, on my 6" M27-2 from 1977. Yours would also have the "football" cut on the left side.

Thank you Hair Trigger for your comprehensive answer! You have good looking M27-2 too :)

Welcome to the forum, and enjoy shooting that revolver. It's likely it won't be your last S&W revolver, they tend to become habit forming.
