I got a new 442-1 , no internal lock, it is stamped that it shoots 38 plus p also. Is there a regular 442 and or A 442-2 also?
What are the difference in model #s? My serial # is CSP5****
On the yellow envelope with the spent round it has a date of 02/2012, is my gun the latest and newest version of the 442?

Thanks all

Very interesting as the no-lock 442 that I purchased from Bud's in November 2008 is marked 442-2. Not that it makes any difference or matters.

As stated above the -1 is no lock and the -2 has the lock. Its the same with the 642 the -1 has no lock and the -2 has the lock.

No, as a few of us can attest, there are -2s without the lock. I have one myself.

For whatever reason, the engineering changes (the dashes) don't necessarily correspond with the lock regarding Centennials. This is my 442-2 and, as you can see, there is no lock:

The SCSW 3rd addition says the 442-2 the change was the addition of the lock but as we all know S&W uses all of their parts so some probably early 442-2's left the factory with the old no lock frame. S&W has done this on pretty much every engineering change like when they dropped the P&R features on magnum revolvers in 1982 some of the final guns had one feature but not the other and are referred to as being transition revolvers up here on the forum.

Well there goes my way of thinking that have had for some time. Is it safe to say that for the most part, besides from maybe some batches/years where the dashes didnt coorespond with the theory that it is trueish?

I guess I would say it most always true on engineering changes but there are revolvers out there that got of the last pre engineering change parts as S&W did use up their inventory and sometimes it took a while.

There should seriously be a rule here that you can't post a picture without identifying the grips. :p

Those a beautiful. Who made them?

That's a Craig Spegel grip.

I think I got a great price! I got my 442 with no lock, brand new from gunbroker for,$305 plus $25 shipping and $25 ffl transfer fee, total out the door $355! I couldn't believe, gun shops around me wanted $400 and up plus tax and they are all of stock! Why is this gun so hard to get? I lucked out with this amazing price. What do,u guys think?

Huh....mine is no dash and it's kinda old. Guess I oughta be thinkin' of trading it in.
