I recently picked up this 642-2. As it was ordered in I didn't get to hand pick this one. As is often the case there's a couple imperfections. Firstly, if staging the trigger it has a hard wall...a little more than I like, anyway. If pulled straight though the action feels quite nice. The underside of the top strap is marred, likely from when the forcing cone was cut. It's purely cosmetic and not noticeable unless looking for it. That seems fairly common lately. The rifling on this one isn't as sharp as I've seen on others. That doesn't affect accuracy any, but may hamper lead bullet use. We'll see about that soon enough.

They make a great pair.

The Uncle Mike's grip retains the gun better in the pocket while not impeding carry or a smooth draw, at least after cutting it down, that is. The covered backstraps are much more comfortable to shoot than the standard grips and suit my hands better. As I've seen lots of these grips butchered I took my time on them.

I had no idea there was a steel insert in there. That made things a little more difficult.

The plug is a home made jobber fashioned from a stainless fastener.

If it shoots anything like my other J's it aught to be a keeper. I fully expect it be. Save for the mentioned quirks it's otherwise perfect.

I bought the first and made the last two. One more to go...

It's the only thing that annoys me about the current guns.

I like the way you think!
