Hey guys - I'm new here and found this forum while researching a 629 that I have the opportunity to pick up.

The revolver is a 629-4, RB, 3 inch barrel, full lug, with a unfluted cylinder, with no box or papers. I've been looking for a few days now and can't figure out what model this is. Any ideas?

Also, the price $1400....too high? In the ballpark?

Thanks in adavnce for the replies.

I have the same model but 2007 production. This looks to be pre lock and forged trigger so early to mid nineties production. I didn't like the grips on mine because they had started to lose stiffness around the the hammer and were flopping in the breeze. I put a crimson trace laser grips on, they really soak up the recoil and they help these old eyes in social situations. 1400 seems a little high but if you are kalifornia that might be a good price. 3 inchers are a niche market in any caliber revolver and you always pay a premium. Turn ring looks kind of subtle so it might not have been shot much. Good luck with your decision.
Forgot to add that mine is a 629-8

I've got a 629-4, with a 3 inch barrel... it's factory engraved as a so-called "Trail Boss". I don't recall offhand, but it may have been a Talo or RSR special production run.

The price of $1400 does seem a bit high, particularly without the box, etc.

Try an internet search for "629 Trail Boss" and you may find something cheaper.

Best wishes,

Looks to me like a product code 103600. Lew Horton had 538 made in October of 1996.

Is the s/n something like: CBL49xx?

Since it's a LH gun you can contact them for a free provenance letter. I would if it were mine.

Check out this previous discussion.......

It's a great gun, but $1,400 seems steep. Many 3-inch M629's have been made over the years. Thousands and thousands. They're not especially rare or uncommon. I think you could get one for $900 if you were patient, though it might not be this exact same variation.
