Hello,

I have a Ruger Security Six made around 1984 (I think). It is a square butt. Shoots like a dream gun too. I am curious if any Smith Wesson grips would fit it. It is hard to find grips for this thing. It was a lot easier to find grips for my Governor.

Any advice would be appreciated! Thanks in advance!

I doubt any would fit. I own a Speed Six myself which is the round butt version of the Security Six. Ruger grip frame sizes do not match any S&W frame size. The Six series frame was somewhere between a K and L at best.

Might want to look at the Thailand grips on ebay. I've seen a few for these revolvers on there.

Ruger had factory target grips for the Six series a few years back. I put a set in my Service Six. They were 10 bucks. I should have bought a few sets. Totally changes the look and feel of the gun. Try to find those. CDNN had them a few years back. The original skinny grips on the Six guns just didn't fit me or look right.

I have the Hogue grips for my Speed Six. They don't fit very well and aren't very comfortable. I was disappointed, since the same Monogrip style on my SP101 is absolutely perfect. The Ruger wood grips will have to do.

S&W and Ruger grips do not match.
Also check your serial # because 150xxx is a different fit from a 151xxx
150 series is an earlier version, than later came the 151 series

There are plenty of after market stocks for the SSs. I think Ruger still has some. The thought of a S&W set fitting without some serious surgery seems like a long shot. Mine original wood stocks are in great shape (I have a '78 4" stainless), but it usually wears a set of Hogue Monogrips. They are great to suck up recoil and feel great in my hand.

An additional reason why S&W stocks will not fit is that S&W locator pins are centered and Ruger pins are off center.

I do not like the original small Six Series magna style wood. I am happy with Herrett Shooting Stars and a Safariland grip that also fills in between behind the trigger guard without flaring too much at the butt. While the Herretts are still offered new I easily found mine used. I think the Safariland grip was discontinued so long ago that a set would be hard to find. I wish I'd bought several sets of factory targets for spares while they were $10 at shopruger.com but never got around to it. I see them in local gun stores for $25 which still is not bad.

That's a good lookin' Security Six on a Smith Wesson forum. LOL!

I'm looking for boot grips to keep a low profile.

I'll keep looking around!

Thanks to everyone for all the comments!

Smith stocks are not going to fit a Security Six of any flavor, sorry. I've had numerous examples of each.

Watch ebay for Pachmayr Signature grips for the SS, same shape as the Signatures for S&W. These are good grips that offer good control.

This Service Six (bi-Centinenal model) came with Houges when I found it.

Got the grips and Tyler grip from Ebay at reasonable prices

I had to look a long time to get a set of standard sized wood grips for a 3 inch stainless security six.
The small wood grips worked best for my purposes.
The oversize grips are still available.
If worse comes to worst grips are not that hard to make. Exactly what are you looking for?
There are lots of folks that make custom grips to order.
