I put a deposit down on a 24-6 to hold it for me this morning. Nice gun, locks up tight, fantastic trigger, aftermarket grips, but with box so the right girps MIGHT be in there, but I didn't think to check. S/N is in the CLE0XX range.

Anybody ever seen a front sight like this one on one of these? I'm thinking it's aftermarket.

I'm not sure if I'm going to get it or not, but I got it squirreled away for now. I do have a couple hundred pieces of 44 special brass just laying around.

Don’t know about the front sight, but I like it! 2006 according to Standard Catalog 4 edition. 24-6 four screw square butt with serrated tang, Classic series 3”. Probably supposed to be a red ramp sight.

Edit: the product code would be 150123.

Pine Worker got it right. The front sight is definitely previous owner added - original would have been a RR and the rear should be a WO. The original grips were Altamont laminated Magnas.

The full-size target stocks look a little out of place on that short-barreled N-frame. I have a square-butt 3" model 25 and equipped it with a set of elk stag magnas from Ken Driskill (bigmtnman on the forum).

Thanks all. I figured the front sight wasn't original, nor the grips. I'm hoping the original grips are in the box, but it's not the end of the world if they're not. I like the bigger target grips anyway.

I'll look it over again to see if I want to keep it.

Oh, if the price was right, it's a keeper. Grips are easy enough to change and you can get the magnas from Altamont, if that is your cup of tea. The front sight is only marginally harder to change, although I'm thinking that if this were mine, I'd round the front corner of that blade and have a gold bead installed on the face. But that's just me.

Since this is an election year the decision should be made by popular vote. The cases have already cast "a couple hundred" buy it votes. With only one vote left to be counted the yeas have it.

Nice gun. I'd leave the better sight alone. Stocks that are not so large in their bottom half would look more proportionate but only be a benefit if you are going to carry it concealed.

I am not certain but I think the 24-6 was only available with a 3" barrel - I don't know if any other barrel lengths were offered in a dash 6. I have a 24-3 3" RB and curiously I never heard of a 24-1, 2,4 or 5. But, I can easily be wrong. The mid 80's 4 and 6.5" were also dash 3.

Courtesy of the SCSW 3rd ed.:

24-1 (1960) Change extractor rod to left hand thread, scarce
24-2 (1961) Cylinder stop changed, eliminate trigger guard screw.
24-3 (1983) reintroduction with no barrel pin
24-4 (1990) Larger front side plate screw with plunger to retain yoke. The 6 1/2" that was part of the 12 revolver decorated set was a dash 4.
25-5 (2001) Heritage Series with top side plate screw

The SCSW 4th ed. should have later dashes.

Here is a color case hardened 24-5 (#25 of 150)...

And here is a 24-6. The 3" guns were introduced in 2006, the 6.5" guns in 2008...

I bet those -1 and -2 are pretty uncommon. Thanks for the update!

[...] The front sight on the one you have on hold looks a bit tall. [...]
I wish all plain black sights came too tall. That way I can file them to the level that works best for me. However, that would not work with most red ramps and beads.
