How to fix advise please.

The cylinder release mechanism isn't working properly on my 3 month old, barely shot S&W 642-2 Airweight. The cylinder release sticks and sometimes when pushed forward, does not release the cylinder. This is my carry weapon and is checked daily. It worked fine until recently.

Thank you!

Take out the screw holding the cylinder release and use a patch to clean out anything that may have gathered underneath. Put one drop of oil in there and put the cylinder latch back in place. A bit far fetched but ya' never know.

Thank you very much!

Check the extractor rod, it may be lose. If it is, don't forget that it has a left hand thread.

I was having the sticking cylinder problem today after a deep cleaning of my 642. I was beating my head against a wall until I found this thread.

S&W forum comes through for me again, thanks OldChief!

Cyl latch

The latch that holds the cylinder closed is at the front end of the ejector rod! There is a shaft that runs thru the center of the extractor rod that is pushed forward when you push the cylinder release. This shaft must be kept well lubed or it will cause the cylinder release button not to work properly!\
