I was thinking about selling my gun and was offered $650 for it at a gun shop. I bought it in 2008 for $1,000. I called Smith and Wesson and gave them the serial number. They told me manufactured in 1991. I have spent days on Google trying to find a picture of a gun that looks like mine and I can't. None of them have the diamond plating. I don't know if this was added or if it was manufactured like this. Does anyone know if they were manufactured like this in 1991? Any advice would be appreciated.

Welcome to the forum.
I'm sure a gun shop did offer you $650 so they can make $400 or $500 on it when they resell it. Maybe more.
I don't believe that embellishment is factory applied but I have not seen them all. If it is some special factory model then the price just went up some more.

The sides of the barrel have bun engine turned and the cylinder has been selectively polished. Most likely will affect the value. The amount depends on the buyer. I would value it at $1000 as it sits.

Interesting finish - definitely not everyone’s cup o tea. I’d say you should be able to get $1k for her, perhaps more if you lived in St Louis or New Orleans.

It looks like a Mag-Na-Port custom to be. They're located in SE Michigan and are known for their EDM barrel porting. The company was started by Larry Kelly and his son Ken now runs the business. In addition to porting, they offered custom aftermarket packages.

The barrel was certainly ported by them. The polished stripes on the cylinder are typical of their custom work, as are the engine-turned/jeweled trigger and hammer. This indicates they did an action job and they usually numbered the cylinder chambers. The barrel flats gave them a lot of area to do more engine-turning.

A photo of the other side of the gun would be helpful, but I'm pretty sure that started out as a S&W Performance Center Hunter. There's NO WAY I'd sell that for $650, it's worth much more.

Not everybody’s cup of tea but it’s certainly worth well north of $650. Shops routinely offer half or under what a guns value is on the secondary market. I understand that they need some meat left on the bone to turn a profit but 50% or more is ridiculous. Good Luck

I would call Mag-Na-Port and see if they worked on it, just need the serial number for them. Then you know what your dealing with.
