I bought a used 4006 and I found a broken part. I don't know what it's called and I've looked everywhere online. It's a very thin piece of metal attached to a pin that fits into the rear frame. It has a long upside down U shape at the end of it that fits over a pin to keep it from moving. The entire piece rests against the slide release lever. Can anyone tell me what this part is called, and better yet point me in the direction of a free pdf parts diagram? Better yet, does anyone online sell this part? Thanks.

It sounds like your talking about the sideplate assembly. Go to Numrich website and follow the schematic to the S&W 4006. You can order it here if available.

I checked Numrich and they are sold out. Brownells has none. Midway does not list one for 4006 but does for 4506 and 4505. Anyone know if either of these are interchangable for 4006? They looks the same to me by the pictures. the 4506 is backordered. The 4505 is available.

I just went to the Smith and Wesson website and called their 1-800 number for parts. They had it in stock. I ordered it and with shipping paid just under $14.00. Looks like a 2 week shipping time because the part is old stock and is packed in the back of some warehouse (that's what the guy told me). I think the sideplate assembly for a 4505 would have fit and it is available through Midway, but the 4505 isn't a stainless gun so the part is blued and wouldn't match my stainless finish. Anyway, I paid about the same price as listed for the 4506 part on Midway.

The sideplate assembly for the single stack .45/10 frames won't work for the 9/.40 double stack frames.

It's not uncommon for the sideplate's bottom legs, or prongs, to become bent or broken if someone doesn't install the grips properly.

I previously posted some info & pics in another thread. The sideplate's legs should snap around recessed head of the sear pin (the recessed end of the pin should be on the left side of the frame).

I have three part orders in to S&W since their summer break (Jul-Aug) and am still waiting for my parts. Good Luck and hope you get it soon or after I get my parts......

A couple of my 2-mo+ back-orders arrived (spring & plastic vendors), so it looks like shipping is starting to catch up. ;)

retail pistol/revolver parts list: pdf files

I've attached PDF files here of the pistol/revolver parts lists from S&W. I've never tried to attach such a file so I'm not sure it will work.
If someone needs these files, you can e-mail or pm me and I'll e-mail it to you. I think it's also available on the S&W web site.
