School me on reloading .45 Colt

Not necessarily. Should you decide to use some .45 ACP bullets sans crimp groove, then a taper crimp is appropriate. Just loaded up and shot some today. Don

    173gr Keith in 19-4?

Uh, not really. The present day Lyman 358429 does not have the same spec's as EK's original mold had, so it is also a "knock off". Don

    Testing 38spl p+ loads (unique)

Forrest, Your numbers are what I would expect to see coming out of a 2" barrel. That is why I questioned the velocity numbers of 950+fps coming out of a 2" barrel using 5.4gr of Unique in a different thread. As you said, "There will be a +/- but it shouldn't be +/- 100fps." coming out of a...

Testing 38spl p+ loads (bullseye powder)

Same here. You might want to recheck your chronograph on that one. My FBI load uses 5.6 grains of Unique, and my 2.5 inch Model 19 barrel does not put me anywhere's near being over 950fps. Don

The "Man Stopper" in .45 Colt....

My .45 Colt deer stopper. Don P.S. - Fragmenting is a result of too much antimony in the alloy. Eliminate/reduce the Sb and replace it with Sn and you will get nice mushrooming.

    .357 loads with HS-7?

Hodgdon's #26 manual lists 10.0gr for both lead and jacketed 158gr bullets. Magnum primers are pretty much required with HS-7. I just bought a couple of pounds of it myself, so that is what I am doing. Don

Reloading for my custom Ruger Bisley 45 Colt

I also restrict my 25-5 to sub-25k psi loads. John's load of a 260gr SWC with 13.0gr of HS-6 is a good one and falls in that category. Don

For You Wet Tumblers: How Do You Handle Rifle Cases?

Ever rinse out the sink after doing dishes? Ya rinse suds with hot water and it keeps creating more suds. Cold water clears out the suds MUCH faster. Don

For You Wet Tumblers: How Do You Handle Rifle Cases?

Been using the FART for a couple of years now on a commercial basis. Here is what I do: 1. Deprime brass using a Universal Decapping die. 2. Fill cannister with 8# of the large size pins. 3. Fill cannister no higher than the cannister neck with brass. 4. Add slightly less than 1 gallon of...

    Federal Primers

No problem substituting small rifle primers for small pistol primers. Worst case scenario, with striker fired pistols they may not always go off. Seem to work fine with hammer fired handguns. Don
