    Shield 40

Ensure your strong hand is as high on the grip as possible (obviously below the slide) and your weak hand is providing good support. Maintain a firm grip all through the firing cycle, don't relax the grip prematurely. Consider adding add-on grips. I use a bicycle inner tube cut to length and...

    Carry watching

Look at others all you want, but the only time I would want to be "called out" is if my carry was inadvertently showing (shirt raised up or such). And it had better be done quietly. Concealed means concealed. Most times I even forget I'm carrying, unless something fishy is happening.

Is the M&P Shield a pocket gun?

Not sure why so many emphatic "no" votes. It works if you do it right. You need pants with large pockets and a properly fitted pocket holster made for the Shield and covering the entire trigger guard. Wearing a proper belt eliminates the potential pants sag issue, but with any carried pistol you...

Range ammo suggestions for Shield 40?

Buy a box of several and see which you like before buying large quantities. Here's a useful site for comparing ammo prices and availability: GunBot ammo FWIW, my Pro 40 and Shield 9 both eat the factory reloads from LAX Ammo without problems.

    I'm impressed

I'm completely satisfied with the stock triggers on our Shield 9 and Pro 40. Both were manufactured in 2013. We use them for self-defense and recreational shooting.

Pages 33-35 in the M&P Pistols Safety & Instruction Manual that should have come with your pistol cover basic cleaning. All the main line cleaning kits work fine, including the ones sold at Walmart. A toothbrush makes a good scrubber. I like using an aerosol solvent for the hard to reach places...

Shield 40 fail to eject at the range

I've also not had problems with WWB in several guns (M&P 40 Pro 5", Shield 9, Kahr CW40, and HiPoint 40S&W carbine). Suggest thorough cleaning (including the magazines) and lube. I use gun grease vice oil on the slides/rails. No lube in the magazines.

    Good ammo for Shield?

Most on line ammo dealers have single box prices not too much different per round than bulk. Suggest you buy a small quantity first to ensure it works well in your pistol. Here's an ammo shopping bot that is useful: GunBot ammo

1st Handgun: Which M&P 9mm variation to get? Pro, Core, Shield, Compact?

Great choice. I love my completely stock Pro 5" in 40. It is a tack driver. Also, shop around the internet. Can save a bunch of $$$ over a local gun shop.

New to The Smith and Wesson forum

Welcome. The "low left" problem has been discussed repeatedly in this forum. Just do a search. Suggest you fire it with your weak hand to see if it still shoots low left. Can't help you with the safety, sorry.

What ammo have you had issues with?

Everything has gone bang in M&P40Pro and Shield9. Mostly shoot factory reloads (laxammo.com) and Hornady Critical Duty, but have shot FMJ Blazer, Remington, Winchester white box in both with no issues.

    Tell me about the M&P40

I love my 40 Pro 5" barrel. Suggest finding a range that rents pistols and see what you like.

    New Shield 9

Glad you're having a good time with it. A good, firm grip is important and the FTE was probably an unintentional relaxation of your grip. As for shooting left, check your trigger pull mechanics to ensure you're pressing smoothly and straight back.

    M&P 40 shield hitting left

+1 A shooter having a problem with trigger pull poundage or the break has a problem, not the firearm. That's similar to moving the sights to "correct" a shooting problem of consistently shooting off center. Better to correct the shooter's technique.

mp 9 pro 5" front sight issue

Since you're under warranty I wouldn't recommend doing it yourself. FWIW, mine is dead on.

    Holy smokes @ .40 magazines!

+2 Well worth it. Be sure to get the correct size for your ammo.
