Tell me the bad news about my NTM 66

At one time, S&W revolvers that came with Target stocks had their serial number inside the yoke, since the stocks would cover the butt. Such as my 29-2.

    gun modification and legalities

In at least two of those shootings, the perpertator was fleeing and no longer a threat. This is a huge factor, especially in the Peoples Democratic Republic Of Kalifornia, and other socialist states. It would be frowned upon, at least, everywhere else. Weapon condition was minor factor. As for...

    Show those "PLUGS"

I would like him to explain how removing a "safety device" designed to ONLY be used in storing a weapon, makes it more "dangerous" when used, since an intact one would be "disabled" by the key in the same circumstance.

    S&W 5906 - Trigger "hang-up"

Dunno what the problem is, BUT if it only does it from the FULL DA stroke, from hammer down, it's not the trigger play spring. That only affects the SA trigger pull. Try it with the slide off, where you can see if anything is happening, or even if it still happens. (DON'T let the hammer hit the...

    Adjusting Model 39-2 sights question...

Like some above have stated, altering the front sight is not really desirable. I also wonder about the interchangability of the sight blades from the revolvers. IF one of the 2 frame sizes fits, (J or K/L/N) there is your solution, as there are several different blade heights made to fit...

    Slide Mounted Decocker Only

Thanks, that is just what I was looking for. I cannot make out the hole or clearance for the spring in the photo. Is it like a notch to engage the leg of the spring visible, in line with the shaft of the body? Sort of like a weird keyhole, with the body being the key and the spring for the...

    Cylinder Throat Diameter

I think he is referring to the 29-2 and 1950. Both of which have the larger throats and predate 89. The 696 series, being much later than 89, would have the newer spec smaller throats. I may have confused things by listing three different guns.

    Cylinder Throat Diameter

After reading the thread on Taylor Throating and discussion about sizing of forcing cones on barrels and chamber mouths, on cylinders I got curious. I dug out my 696-2 and decided to check how tight the chamber throats were on the cylinder. Uhhhh....Can you say TIGHT? As in taking a loaded...

    Slide Mounted Decocker Only

I'm interested in changing my 4506 ambi safety over to a decock only type where after dsecocking, the lever returns to "FIRE." Can anyone tell me the parts and part numbers needed and the specific names of the parts? Pictures also helpful. I'm ASSuming there are no machining operations...

How do you control where the casings go?

IF that ejector is not SOLIDLY held in place, there is your source of random ejection patterns. Once the ejector is FIRMLY in place, where your ejection pattern is consistant, you will have a better idea of the "tuning" of the ejector required to insure the ejection pattern is where you desire...

That's not "idiocy", but ignorance, which is defined as a lack of knowledge. We are ALL ignorant on many subjects. Never regret, or apologize for reducing, your ignorance. When you cease learning, your ignorance stops decreasing.

Crane binding on my 66-2: Need some advice

I concur with the others, that the problem is the length of the front screw. While the ejetor rod coming loose, IS a well known problem, I have my doubts in this case. He reports loosening the front screw frees up the crane, something that would NOT help, if the ejector rod was loose.

    S&W 1076 10mm FBI

Probably a combination of the 10mm "FBI" reduced load could be duplicated in a shorter case along with that allowing a smaller framed pistol. Same performance as the heavier, larger 10 mm pistol in a smaller, lighter 40 S&W pistol? Death knell for the 10 mm as a Law Enforcement round. Similar to...

    MIM vs. Forged *UPDATE

*UPDATE Received a NIW 6906 hammer in the mail yesterday. About 20 minutes later, I have a 4506 with a factory bobbed hammer. Only had to switch the shorter stirrup on the 6906 hammer for the longer one of the 4506, otherwise dropped right in. Function is fine. AND, if I so choose, it's an...

    Measuring barrel length

Also, keep in mind that S&W changed barrel lengths on several models from 6 1/2" to 6" circa early 1980s. Model 29 and 25-2, for example. Sometimes difficult to tell from individual weapon, unless actually measured.
