K since I'm a "newb" to S&W semi-autos in general I'm having a :confused: moment with the DA pull on my newly aquired 5906.

I've noticed a VERY pronounced....catch/rub/stuck feel....like the trigger is getting caught/hung-up on something when I start the pull from full DA.

I didn't pay much attention to the "sticking" much before I bought the pistol - assuming that it was just gummed up since I hadn't given it one of MY cleanings yet.

When I pull the hammer and set the trigger to SA.... it's smooth through the motion till the hammer drops.

Now I know these pistols were set-up with an obnoxious 10lbs + DA pull for law enforcement requirements, but I'm pretty sure that this STICKING issue is something else. I'll add that I've field-stripped and cleaned the bejesus out of it to try and eliminate this trigger catch - that feels like it's right AT the trigger - but nothing has changed.

SOOO....I'm wondering if a full trigger spring kit/overhaul is the answer? I'm FISHING for any thoughts/fixes/cures/ideas to this issue??

Thanks all.

Sounds like a trigger play spring problem. Jp

Dunno what the problem is, BUT if it only does it from the FULL DA stroke, from hammer down, it's not the trigger play spring. That only affects the SA trigger pull.

Try it with the slide off, where you can see if anything is happening, or even if it still happens. (DON'T let the hammer hit the bare frame.)

Hopefully, someone with more experience than me with the 3rd Gen Smiths, will have some ideas.

pull the grip off and observe the hammer spring as you pull through from DA. may be roughness there I've polished several rods that had roughness on the edges.

I took it to my local FFL this morning and had an employee that I shoot with frequently take a "feel" for it.

As a IDPA/IPSC shooter he stated that it feels like it could be a combo of issues. One of them being EXACTLY what 5906fan stated above and recommended a WOLFF Gunspring kit.
Now I'm NO gunsmith so tearing into my 5906 to polish up any trigger draw spring rods is outta my league. (at the moment anyways)

I'll gladly turn it over to a highly respected gunsmith that my FFL has in-house, but I have NO idea what to order?

Wolff's website lists a "Pistol Service Pack" but all it has is factory replacement combo of parts. I'd like to get the DA pull lightened, so am I better off ordering everything separately?

Just fish'n

Thanks:cool:

depending on the round count you may need a new recoil spring and fireing pin spring - if you shoot 'hot' loads you should go up a couple pounds for the recoil.
for the hammer spring a reduced tension will give a pull with less resistance but don't go to light or you may have light primer strikes.
the rod is a stamping and I've seen burrs on them so make sure your smith takes a look at it and smooths it well, and the hammer link with it.
again don't go too light as actually the hammer resistance to the slide is part of the recoil resistance also.

UPDATE:

After field stripping and pulling off the grips for inspecting & a good cleaning of the hammer spring assembly I did a few "dry-fire's" to watch all the trigger mechanism(s) work and narrow down where the catch is.

FOUND IT. It's right at top of the trigger.

I downloaded a PDF parts breakdown to get the name of stuff right

When the gun is cocked and in SA mode, the trigger drawbar and drawbar plunger spring assem. at the top of the trigger inside the frame seems to "ride-up" slightly when I pull the trigger to take-up the slack.

There's a little "pop" as something lets go? I'm guessing it may be the trigger "play-spring" that's creating the issue.

I've cleaned & oiled as much as I can, but it makes no difference.

Is this NORMAL? or is a trip to a S&W gunsmith in order?

thanks:o

Send it in

S&W will pay for shipping and thr work, and you should have the gun back in less than 2 weeks. If you "forget" to include an empty mag with the gun, don't be surprised if they mail you back one when the gun gets back to you. The will tear it down and give it a complete lookover. I sent my 3913 in once and the detail stripped it and replaced the mag catch and the the extractor, too.

There is a little copper colored flat spring spring that sits inside the frame in front of the trigger. Take the slide off and look down into the frame in front of the trigger. It is L shaped and has a small rivet in the front of it. If it is bent back, toward the magazine well, it will cause a click feeling on trigger reset. It often gets bent back during cleaning. Take a pencil, or dowel or something like that and gently bend the part of the L that is sticking up back to 90 degrees from the frame. If that is your problem it will be fixed. If not then I need more info or better yet pics.
