But........ is that an early nickel S prefix gun SP? It doesn't appear to be with the nickel front sight. I believe that's what Doc44 was referring to- the early one S prefix nickel 57's as being uncommon.

I'd say one thing is that bottom view of the OP's grips. They are narrower and more tapered off at the front and rear "corners" of the grip panels than later versions are. Bill, you could very well be right about them both being GA, but I have never seen GA like that anywhere whether or not it...

I have a set that has been re-finished at some point in their past that look just like those except for the fact they are late'60's to late '70's grips. The color is lighter, but the grain is the same. IME, when grips are soaked in acetone before re-finishing, they tend to lighten up in color...

About half of the S&W's I own have inconsistant roll marks on them that are either shallow, or deeper on one side than the other etc. both on the logo and the address line(s), and they are all original finish guns except for two, which were re-finished at the factory.

The re-blue doesn't bother me. I blew your picture up nice and large and don't really see over buffing around the sideplate seam. Maybe a tad, but not enough for me to shy away from buying it. I like collectible guns as much as anyone, especially if they are older, but I really like a good...

Hi Roger. Take a look at the Galco Phoenix. It is a strong side/cross draw holster. I have several of them in various sizes for my N frames. They are very nice holsters and readily available at a Galco dealer or online.

There's no danger in shooting any factory ammo or quality handloads with the over-sized throats. Accuracy will be iffy at best, and down right lousy at worst, With all the current shortages, bullets for handloading, especially in the larger sizes, are very hard to come by. If you can locate any...

Cool gun and nice trading. How about some better pics, and maybe some of the left side of the grip frame? Any other re-work marks on it anywhere? It might be worth re-lettering to see if it indeed shipped as blue and 4".

I'm thinking that maybe the original owner had them made that way to make reaching the trigger a bit easier since they cover the entire grip frame.

Kris, is it an optical illusion or is the right panel thinner than the left? It sure looks like it in that bottom pic. John Taffin has written quite a lot about Bear Hug/Blue Magnum grips in many of his articles and books, and owns quite a few sets of them.
