    9mm Plated FP Bullets & 3rd-Gen S&W Pistols

OK, here's the results of some tests and measurements over the weekend. Loads that functioned fine: 3.8gr Titegroup, 124gr Berry's PRN: OAL 1.161" 4.2gr HP-38, 124gr Berry's PRN: OAL 1.155" Fiocchi Extrema, 124gr Hornady XTP: OAL 1.093" The Bad Load: 3.6gr Titegroup, 124gr Berry's PFN: OAL...

    9mm Plated FP Bullets & 3rd-Gen S&W Pistols

The second one. I like this theory. I'm leaning towards the rifling hypothesis because I loaded the rounds somewhat long; ~1.14" OAL IIRC, but I'll have to go measure one. I'm accustomed to loading for revolvers where if it fits in the cylinder, it'll work, so I haven't generally worried too...

    9mm Plated FP Bullets & 3rd-Gen S&W Pistols

Howdy all, The short question: Has anyone experienced any problems with feeding flat-point bullets in a 3rd-gen S&W pistol? The longer question: ;) I recently obtained a S&W Model 3904 and took it to the range for the first time a few days back. I had two failures to go into battery when I...

Early .32HE Model of 1903 as shooter?

Howdy all, I've been contemplating picking up a .22LR or .32 Long I/J frame as a fun plinker and a tool to teach my son how to shoot. This gun will NOT be carried. I keep stumbling upon early .32 Hand Ejectors at decent prices, but I'm a bit concerned about buying a gun made before the Third...

Need frame for 1990 (I think) S&W Poster

Howdy all, I recently picked up a S&W full line-up dealer poster at a gun show and would like to use it as a workshop decoration. It does not have a date on it but I believe it's from 1990 based on the guns that appear on it; it has the M3904 and M3906, so that definitely narrows it down. :)...

    FSOT: S&W model 60 & Glock 27 (DFW,TX)

I'm definitely interested in the M60, but what are you looking to trade it for? You can email or PM me if you want. {EDIT} PM sent.

    3906 questions

Here's what I've read, but take this with a grain of salt. I'd like to hear confirmation myself. 1) The full-size (39, x39, 390x) mags are slightly longer than the compact (391x/395x) mags. Full-size mags will work in the compact pistols but stick out slightly; however, the compact mags will...

    3906 questions

Howdy all, I've been enamored with the 39-series for some time, and I've stumbled across a potentially good deal on a 3906, although I haven't looked at it yet. I've found lots of info about the 391x compacts but not nearly as much about the full-size 3rd-gen 39xx guns, so they seem to be...

    442 Pro Series Question

On this same topic, does anyone know whether the 442 Pro Series- or any of the new Pro Series J frames in general- comes with moonclips, or do they have to be purchased separately?

    S&W 10 with 5" barrel uncommon?

I agree with the other responses- the 5" barrel is less common, but IMHO no Model 10 configuration is truly uncommon except the 3" HB.

    Pro series J frames??

I think they did it to annoy me. To quote the "Njorl's Saga" episode of Monty Python's Flying Circus: "We interrupt this program to annoy you and make life generally irritating." ;)

    New Stainless 632 .327 magnum

No. :D AFAIK none of the new "Pro Series" revolvers have the ILS. Look at the picture of the LH side of the gun on the S&W product sheet: http://www.smith-wesson.com/wcsstore/SmWesson/upload/other/PS/2010/178046%20-%20Model%20632%20with%20night%20sights.pdf FWIW one issue regarding...

    model 15 and 67

I think the OP is referring to the DAO LE-trade-in M15s and M67s recently offered by J&G Sales. The most common way to convert a S&W revolver to DAO is to file the single-action sear off the hammer, but it can also be done by filing the SA notch off the trigger. Be aware, however, that...

    Pro series J frames??

Based simply on what I've observed: Pro Series = Non-ported barrel, no ILS, regular stainless finish, cylinder relieved for moon clips on some models, dovetailed sights on some models Carry Comp Pro = Ported barrel, ILS, matte black finish FWIW one major item of confusion is that the 632...

    LadySmith info needed

Howdy all, I'm working on several rewrites to Wikipedia articles about S&W firearms and I have a question. What LadySmith revolvers did S&W offer, and when were they dropped from the catalog? The last 2 years of catalogs I have (08 and 09) have no LadySmiths in them. The SCSW contains info...

    .38 S&W M&P

+1. (+2?) The finish doesn't look crisp enough to be a S&W factory job. FWIW factory nickel S&W revolvers have blued finish on the ejector star and ejector rod, and the hammer and trigger will have color case finish (appears grey with green and purple swirls). It looks like your revolver has a...

    Help me with IDPA Choice

The same seller has a pair of similarly ugly Model 15s for sale in the low $200 range. I coincidentally just went through the same debate as the OP and bought one of the pretty nickel 15-3s they were selling 2 weeks ago. :D I considered a HB Model 10, but I like the adjustable rear sight much...

    32s&w? and 38s&w?

+1. The .38S&W technically uses a larger-diameter case, but the difference is so small (0.04") that it often works OK if the revolver has loose chambers and/or the cases are sized slightly small. Firing a larger-caliber bullet in smaller-caliber bore would normally be a Big No-No and a kB...
