I find that I shoot better on the shorter grip with my pinky finger somewhere under the grip. When I use the extended mag I tend to shoot low with the smaller pistols. I shoot a Shield 9 (always with the 7 round mag) and a Sig P238. Maybe it's because I always practice that way.

+p rounds will be higher pressure. That means higher velocity and deeper penetration.

That isn't a problem that I've had. Did you clean it really well before taking it to the range? If not it may have gotten gummed up with all that mess of stuff they sometimes ship them with. Hopefully you have the same good luck that I've had with mine.

I wouldn't begin to tell you what to do, but I just purchased a "shield" in 9mm and it may be my new favorite for CC. I say may be because I've not yet got enough rounds through it to have confidence for carry purposes.
