Got a local guy selling a Tactical Magwell Gripwell: Home

Wondering if anyone has put one of these on their 15-22.
I read the 15-22 is wider than the usual AR, so I would like to avoid having to modify.

Also share what magwell grips you have found to work on the 15-22, hopefully without modifications. Thanks!

I have seen very few folks here saying their magwell grip was worth the effort to modify them to fit the 15-22. Conversely, using one is often reported to be detrimental to accuracy.

I've got a 15-22p and it's where my hand is most comfortable and I shoot just fine in that config. Can't imagine a more secure grip would hurt accuracy.

I use a Mako magwell grip which required some material be grinded away to fit. Kind of a pain, but worth it as I love to hold my rifle by the magwell. The grip just makes it more comfortable; no effect on accuracy that I can tell.

That's similar to the one I have, I LOVE IT. Buying another for my M4 now.

The Mako stuff is mostly garbage, I have one sitting here that doesn't fit anything I've got. Their colors are horrible and don't match their own products, not to mention they have about the worst customer service I've ever seen.

Problem with that is, mine is a 15-22p, and that Mission first grip will count as a vertical foregrip, which means it's a no-go as the true cost of using it will involve some tax stamps :(

You can use the Magpul AFG. No stamp required.

I thought any kind of grip on the fore end was illegal on the 15-22P.

There is some precedence on the AFG being accepted on AR15 pistols.. It is very commonly seen as it is not seen as an actual "vertical grip". i think there is even a DOJ letter of sorts on Calguns. The AFG is an "angled" grip. A technicality that is legal.

Anyway, as a general rule of thumb, NO true "vertical" grip is allowed on an AR type "pistol" like the 15-22p.

A magwell grip, if you like them like I do, like the Never Quit, would be and is totally legal. Some of them have designs which take them beyond just being a magwell grip - those that curve up onto the rail - and that would be a concern to me.

I use a Never Quit on ALL of my AR rifles and pistols. It has never ever hindered accuracy, I would say especially on my pistols it helps as I can grip in a more stable location and get a more tacky comfortable grip and control the pistol better. I would use one on my 15-22 in a heart beat, but since we have 1 piece molded trigger guards/lowers I cannot without cutting the Never Quit and trying to mod it closed and it would be hard given it is rubbery and elastic it would fight against staying wrapped once cut. I have never liked the plastic bulkier styles of magwell grips that fit under the trigger guard.

Not interested in the angled foregrip. I'm asking about magwell grips/covers, so please try to stay on topic.

If you are talking to me, I was 100% on topic. There is a whole paragraph about what magwell model I like to use, why, but how they will not be usable here without a mod.

As for the angled foregrip, that was bought up by others, acknowledged by you with a comment and by others, so I commented on it as well given I had some pretty pertinent info on that angle.

This is an internet forum, topics twist and turn and take tangents - it is just natural. Your question is still getting answered along the way.

It's an AOW $5 stamp.

Wasn't directed specifically at you, lockednloaded
Yes I appreciate the time and effort taken to respond to my thread, but there are more than enough forum discussions about the legality of foregrips on a pistol, how a pistol is defined, what tax stamps are necessary, what technicalities there are that allows the angled foregrip, followed by a discussion of a posting of an ATF letter, and so on and so forth, with a whole lot of regurgitation of wrong information.
I know the magwell grips are kosher, I've read plenty of back and forth misinformation and arguing and yelling over the other foregrip issues which have nothing to do with magwell grips.

If the irrelevant answers are coming from people who still want participation credit, fine, 2 pts for you guys.

Telero - not if you have someone with a license to manufacture NFA weapons do it. Then it's only $5.

It's also only $5 on a weapon designated as "AOW" when acquiring it from a dealer.

OP - So have it put on by a licensed NFA smith and it's $5. I would say the wait would be the PIA.

Or start chewing down the maxwell grip.

It's tax exempt for a manufacturer w/SOT (07/02 for example) to make the AOW. Then $5 to transfer it. It will still take weeks for the manufacturer to register the AOW and months to do the transfer to the owner. And unless it's a really close personal friend, the manufacturer won't likely be doing the registration for free.

Even if the 07/02 registers the AOW, you still can't possess the complete AOW until the registration and transfer takes place (months).
