Which rim fire scope?

My 15-22 is a gun for fun or as a training understudy.......... currently have a red dot on mine....... but found a Weaver 1-3x20 scope (shotgun) is a great little scope for about $150..... I understand it is/was popular with the "3 Gun" shooters.

I have a Nikon P-22 rimfire scope (2-7 X 32) on My M&P15-22. I believe they changed the name of it to P-Rimfire. It is specifically designed for 22 rimfire AR platforms. Have the BDC reticle and sighted in at 50 yards. Very nice scope - clear optics. The Nikon cantilever mounts are extra and are a little pricey.

It's funny you brought up the Nikon because I have been researching them lately. They seem to have a quality brand of scopes. My Nikon camera is still working to this day so that says a lot. I didn't know they were in the firearm market. Thanks!
I think you'll be very hard pressed to find another brand scope that has the quality the Nikon line gives at that price point. One HUGE aspect of a quality scope is the lens and as you already know Nikon has been making very high quality lenses for many years. I have not heard of nor read any negative reports about Nikon scopes. Also, Nikon offers a very good warranty on their scopes.

I will be honest I didn't read all the post's but I did notice lots of good info.

For me I hunt with my gun so accuracy is crucial. I kill almost anything you would consider shooting with a .22lr out to 100 yards.

For my hunting duties I use a Berska 3-9x40 CQB scope with the mil dot reticle and I use it to estimate range and I use the BDC function. Both the mil dots and the BDC have worked great. The scope is even great at night with the addition of a front light. Plus it being a CQB scope it has great eye relief and a generous field of view.

For 80 bucks I couldn't be happier. I can see all the way out to 100 yards and I can accurately place rounds on my targets. Even on the run rabbits within 50 yards stand zero chance. Kinda takes the fun out of it but your friends will be realy impressed when you knock down a rabbit on the run at night from a prone position.

Word to the wise this scope has bad reviews because if your dumb like I was and you hand the scope to your buddy who immediately takes the BDC and goes to far under its range it will brake the reticle adjustment. However customer service was great and I had a new scope within a few weeks. Now I make sure I lock the turrets before letting anyone look at or use the gun.

Honestly, I'm sold on them. It's just a matter of which one I'm going to get and where I can buy it for the cheapest. Opticsplanet seems to have the Prostasff II that another gentleman on here told me about. I think they're sold out on Amazon. I'm going to keep looking. Thanks for the input.

I saw this scope on Amazon, but you're right. It didn't get the best reviews. I'm glad you share your information with me. I'll check it out. Thanks.

Great now you have made up your mind....now it's time to play the...'objective lens, scope ring height game.'

Now then icon i'm gonna throw a wrench in the works;)

getting away from scopes a little......

On my other 15-22 I have the Eotech EXPS3-0 and the Eotech

G33.. 3x slide to side magnifier...Now this set up allows you

to use your iron sights without having to take anything

off the rail.

HAHAHAHAHAHA That was funny. Dont invite me I dont want to play that game. Im already doing it with my .270 so I can go get me a deer this year..... Hmm do I want to shoot 500 yards or do the silly thing and try to get out to 1000 even though I dont have anywhere to try....

PS i used to be in the photography game to the point where we ran a modeling studio even the Hasselbad cameras that cost 50k bucks a day to rent couldnt touch the clarity of Nikon glass. Now since Hasselbad has awesome light sensors they make up for this but when your talking scopes the isoteric glass and aspherical lenses of Nikon are almost unbeatable.

However I wouldn't expect your 15-22 to shoot past 100 yards as the bullet spread tends to open up quite a bit and the velocity falls of HUGE as does the bullet drop.

Man ol man!! That looks great!!! So this is a co-witness setup you have here? Someone else told me I could consider such in case my sight fails or battery dies. Now I'm going to have to research this. I'm telling you...I've done the most research on damn sights it's ridiculous. Lol. And I'm still stuck. Lol.

Nikon is looking more and more like the winner.

icon rhymes with Nikon

Icon, Yes Nikon makes sport equipment. Back when I learned to SCUBA I acquired a Nikonos camera good below 30 meters; still works.

You should be satisfied & happy with a Nikon rimfire 'scope on your 15-22. I bought one on sale for $119 then splurged on Nikon's J-series mounting rings which really lock in the 'scope.

I have the Nikon Prostaff Rimfire II 4-12x40mm. The 4-12 means you can adjust the dial from 4 times to 12 times magnification. Forty mm describes the diameter of the forward lense. Difficult to describe how clear & close targets appear through this 'scope.

Suggest you also purchase flip-up caps for your scope to protect the lenses while shooting, transport, & cleaning.

You, my friend are the best. Thanks for the added info. I think the Prostaff comes with bungle caps so I'l use those when I'm not using the rifle. Amazon has them, but they're out of order right now. I'll order them anyway and give it about a week or so and they'll be back in order. This happened before and I just ordered and they popped up. And I think I'm going to order these rings to mount it.

With the EXPS3 having a QR mount (7mm),this gives a lower

1/3rd co-witness other Eotech's without the QR mount give a co-witness in the

centre of the window.Hurry up icon we need to see pics of

your 15-22:rolleyes: the saying is it don't happen without pics

I agree. Thanks for sending the link. But if I have the scope, it almost defeats the purpose of the red dot, right? Why would I have both?

Its for heads up (rather than cheek weld) shooting at close range.

TBH unless you're in the military doing CBQ type operations it has next to no use given the massive distance from the bore axis. I use it all the time of course:rolleyes::D Looks good though :p

If your primary aim for shooting is going to be a scope, Nikon or Vortex (which the forum seems to have narrowed down for you) the chances of your scope failing are very slim. Unless you are a clutz who keeps dropping your equipment.

Stick with that, if you can dial the magnification down to 3/4 then that should suffice for most close tasks dial the magnification up to 9/12 then you have ample zoom to be able to see your target up close and personal.

Then once you have shot it, got used to it and learned how to shoot it, you can always get an angled rail and mount flip up iron sights or a mini red dot on a 45' angle which can become active when you cant the rifle...i have a RMR on mine, it only really gets used when i am plinking bean cans or balloons for fast fun...but it adds another option and looks cool as....;)

Chances are once your scope is on...it is not coming off.

Keith is right....without pics none of this has happened :D

I too have been looking at scopes for my 15-22 that in spite of it not being a 1 MOA rifle is used for target shooting. Most times its fun at my local indoor 25 yard range. I might join a club with an outdoor range (100 yards or longer). On occassion my wife shoots this rifle too and she is complaining that she cannot see the targets at 25 yards so a scope is preferred instead of a red dot (or red dot and magnifier). Because we could be shooting at targets anywhere from 10 yards to 100-150 yards I want a scope with AO.

I am very interested in the Nikon Prostaff 3-9x40 EFR Target and the Bushnell AR Optics 2-7x32 Drop Zone. Others have commented that the Bushnell is about perfect on the 15-22. It has side adjustable AO and true 1/4 MOA adjustment (1/4 @ 100 yards). Its $50-$60 less than the Nikon. But I am not sold on its BDC reticle. The Nikon has a bit more range and is brighter. I like their Precision reticle. The AO is adjusted on the front at the lens. It has 1/2 MOA adjustment (1/4 @ 50 yards). Its more expensive than the Bushnell.

I've looked into Millet, Clearidge, Vortex and UTG. All have some interesting options. But so dar its the Bushnell and the Nikon that have caught my eye.

I will either remove the MBUS entirely or offset mount them if a workable solution (centered over bore at correct height) can be found or toss on a set of inexpensive offset irons available all over the internet. At some point down the road those irons could be replaced with an offset micro red dot or micro reflex sight.

While picking out a scope seems like a dilemma it is wonderful to have so much choice and a fair amount of quality even in budget/entry level models. We should be able to find a good scope and mounts at a reasonable price.

I got mine out today along with a few of it bigger brethren, had no trouble making hits on the 3" flappers on my 100 yd 1/2" ar500 silhouette targets, with the 15-22 and the 10 buck used scope ,not a lot of flapper movement but I had no problem hitting them

of course the 556's and the 308 make a bigger impact
