Hello all, Matt from South Carolina here.

I see on some older threads where the Timney Impact was a go-to. Now I see where CMC and Rise are mentioned a lot... is the Timney Impact no longer a good choice for the rifle?

Hopefully, I'm not beating a dead horse. I did a quick search but not seeing what I'm looking for. Hopefully someone can point me in the right direction.

So I spoke to a what seemed like a very knowledgeable guy on the phone at Primary Arms for about 30 min yesterday. He suggested just upgrading these instead of a drop-in trigger that could likely result in light strikes.

Trigger/Spring upgrade
HIPERFIRE EDT Designated Marksman AR-15/10 Trigger Assembly

Antiwalk pins specifically for the 1522
CMC Triggers AR-15 / AR-10 Anti-Walk Pin Set - M&P 15-22

Hopefully delivered by weeks end. I'll document the installation and post it up when I can, too.

I still recommend the CMC drop in unit for the 15-22. As already covered, not all drop in triggers work in rimfires. Of those that do, the CMC is probably the least expensive at about $100 on sale. I have been running one of the 3.5# units in my 15-22 for four years with over 10,000 rounds through it with zero problems.

Thank you for the info. Which one are you running?

mattSC What type of trigger pull do you want ? S&W states a 4Lb pull weight . Might be a set of JP yellow springs will do well in a 2 stage stock type trigger if reliable firing 22lr ammo . Remember there some ultra lite triggers that work for centerfire cartridges
that may not hit hard enough to fire a 22LR cartridge .

I have used Hyperfire triggers for 10 years starting with a couple of there older 24C called a Competition trigger today but also have one of there PDI BLK trigger with a great SA 2lb pull that's a drop in unit . All of there drop in triggers strike the firing pin harder than stock mil spec triggers do ! I'm use to lighter trigger but this 2Lb PDI trigger works real well. Just have no interest in a 22lr versionof an AR15 . Good luck .

No interest? Have you shot the 1522? Don't knock it til you try it.[emoji6] It's one of the funnest ARs I've ever shot.

I'm not wanting to get in the 2lb range, just trying to clean it up a tad and still stay crisp. Also wanted to see what others are doing as well. I run CCI standard in everything unless I'm sighting-in with some center x. Thanks for the details.

I am currently running the flat trigger 3.5# unit which has worked itself down to 3.0#over the years. I have one of their 2.5# units in the drawer for future. I always watch Palmetto State Armory’s daily sales, they run them for $99.00 often. I have also used the Palmetto trigger which looks identical with equal success. For nearly the same price, I will continue to use the CMC product which is made 150 miles away from home.
Full disclosure, a few years ago, I broke two hammer springs on CMC units, both were repaired under warranty. I have since put a drop of oil on the hammer spring coils at each cleaning. No more broken springs!

Rise Armament 3.5# RA140SST works like a champ in my 15-22. Anti-Walk Trigger & Hammer pins included. I got it about 5 years ago on sale. Got for under $90.00!

Yes I have fired a m&p 15-22 and find it to be nothing special . Accuracy was 2.5 to 4" at 50 yards depending on ammo !! He had a 4-14 mueller scope on it . YOu might also see what guys over at rimfire central have to say about it .

You might also take your trigger group out and clean it well even stone the sides of the parts but not the sear and hammer engagement areas . The one 15-22 I shot had a stock trigger , smooth and ok pull weight and he shoot it alot , several thousands of rounds and that may have helped smooth up the trigger pull but there just not a 22lr rifle I have any interest in .

Try the JP springs or just the lower spring maybe and see how that works out , reliability wise before spend a 100 bucks on some thing else that may not be all that ether.

Problem is for me is we have 4 - 22lr rilfes Two stock bolt action and two semi auto's that can shoot sub moa groups .

I have no interest in even a 2" 100 yard 22lr shooter with mid level match ammo . The one 15-22 I shot was more of a 3.5 to 4" at 50 yards with CCI "AR tactical ammo " that was not good ammo and mini mags that can shoot pretty well in some rifles the owner was happy with it .

I appreciate the write up hardluk! I'll look into those springs as well.

I know it's not meant to be a tack driver, but it's pretty dang good at plinkin and keeping the fun level pumped up to the max. I've had really good accuracy results so far with it and a red dot. I did grab a sexy Burris Fullfield during Amazon prime days. I'm itching to zero it in and see how accurate I can really get though.

Just joined, mainly for the 15-22 talk - I love my little plinker. I replaced my stock trigger after about 3-4 years and who knows how many thousands of rounds when I started having a lot of fail to fire, which I assumed (correctly), was due to light strike issues. I went cheap since I wasn't sure of the issue and picked up PSA Single-Stage Flat Drop-In Match Grade trigger on sale for $70 shipped. Been running it for almost a year and have had no issues with it at all. It seems to be a viable option and looks good too IMO.

Where do they state that? All I can find so far is where it says 'no' to the 10lb trigger section in the tech specs. Maybe that's the Performance edition?

I’ve been on a “journey” with my 15-22 to turn it into something that would give a tuned 10/22 a run for its money. First was the installation of a Volquartsen barrel and a Timney trigger. I had great accuracy with this combo but also had about 20% light strikes. Determined to make it work with the 3lb Timney (stock was 7lbs and creepy/gritty), I upped the ante with the Volquartsen bolt. The bolt also includes their excellent extractor and firing pin. Success! 100% reliability and one-hole 50 yard groups with Norma Tac-22. Some may not feel that the 15-22 is worth the upgrades but I do, and it’s actually turned out to be less expensive than a Volquartsen or Kidd 10/22 build. Mine’s probably “overglassed” with a Primary Arms 4-16x scope but I like it. :)

Sounds like a real fun setup! Thanks for the reply

I'm going to try this 3x9-40 for fun but I already know I'll go back to the red dot... so far, it's my favorite setup

Beuller... Beuller?

Anyway, this is what mine looks like stock and what's I consider broke in with close to 1k rounds through it. Little over 5lbs.

Here's the scale with a known 5lbs weight hanging on it. The scale is surprisingly consistant and repeatable with a 3,5, and 8lb weight. The digital readouts are certainly nicer, but this is tough to beat for general purposes.

The trigger tracking says it will be delivered today. Should be able to report back this evening or tomorrow.

The new trigger and springs got it down to just over 4lb. Feels nice too, I like that. I wonder if the JP 3lb spring will bring it down a hair more? I'll have to check for 11$... it's worth a shot... down the rabbit hole I go!

factory triggers today tend to vary in pull weight so what some one has stock will vary . You have what you will have . Now ether try the JP yellow spring or some best choice drop in trigger and see what you think of it . Not like AR trigger research is not out there so read for up , make noted on a few trigger you have an interest in and make your choices .

I will say the down side of the 2lb sa triggers is You may like it a lot and cause you to update other firearms - Hahahaha .

Will do. Thanks for taking the time to help a trigger newb!

Well, I finally got to try my new installation and was immediately disappointed. Classic light strike struck again. The JP 3.5lb spring just didn't have enough umph to fire the round, like I was warned. I got her back home and put back in the Hyperfire 4.5lb spring. Did some empty case test fires, and you can see the evidence fairly clearly. The red was the original fired strike. The 2 blues are the light strikes with the 3.5 JP spring. The green is the actual 4.5lb spring that came with the trigger set from Hyperfire. I used dryerase markers to color the indents and then just wiped away the excess.

Not only was I unable to use my 1522, but the range area is still flooded from the rains... good thing my buddy brought his, and we both had a few other rimfires to enjoy. Still a fun day plinking.

Not sure if it's the Volquartsen pin as well, bit the CMC Three Gun has performed flawless for over 1k rounds. This thing is so much fun to plink with.

Pay no mind the Timney slim stick... it's going in something else, they weren't kidding when they said it was not for the 15-22 [emoji6]
