What size rear notch for sights?

Depends on what you want to do. The closer the two sights are to each other(dimensionally), the more accurate for bullseye type target shooting, the larger rear sight will help on fast target acquisition for action type shooting.

Its similar to the 10-8 rear
and if you already like the ameriglo it may work

.140 is the size of the stock m&p rear. I went with the .156 on my shield for a little more light. Works good for me, YMMV.
