Walter CCP vs Shield

Reviewed the specs on the new Walter 9mm CCP and the weight and dimensions are actually closer to the Glock 26 than the Shield.

Why can't someone make a 9mm striker that is in the weight and size category of the Kahr PM/CM 9 and Sig P938?

I know there are others out there like me who like the convience of pocket conceal but would like a Shield quality 9mm trimmed down 3 -4 oz.

I went the other way and built my wardrobe around the gun I want to pocket carry. I have a couple dozen pair of these pants and the Shield hides and draws very nicely:

Wrangler 'Relaxed Fit' jeans, Dockers slacks and Wrangler Cargo pants have allowed me to front pocket carry my Shield for the last two years.
True, it's 6oz heavier than the PF-9, but it shoots a smoothly as my G26.

I'd get the Shield, Walter is just too old now and sleeps to much to carry him around for self defense.

Seriously though, why not just get the Kahr or Sig if it fits your needs, is the striker fire a must have?

The one to fit your needs is the Walther PPS. To me it's the perfect EDC. While dimensions are an important reference point, the configuration/shape of the pistol and the type of holster, position of carry and ergonomics are just as important. Walther in any form here in the states is vastly under rated - why I'm not sure. The PPS doesn't have the new PPQ trigger, but if the new CCP does it should be terrific. Walther makes a quality, reliable pistol. The Walther PPQ and the new Steyr M series have the BEST striker-fired triggers on the market. A Kahr P380 is my other EDC. Good luck

I was at the NRA convention in Indy and visited the Walther booth... I'm completely obsessed with the CCP. It melted in my hands, was beautiful, had a great trigger, and the rep who shot it said that it was the softest nine he's ever shot.

The Shield is certainly smaller. It's what I carry, and I don't see the Walther taking its place. If you don't mind the extra size it might be worth a strong look.

CCP was very sweet. I was at the convention as well and loved the gun. Slide was super easy to rack, trigger was fantastic and the ergos were phenomenal. Unfortunately, it's too big for me to want to CC. I may still pick one up as a range gun, but I'll stick with my Shield for carry. The CCP would be a great choice for a new gun owner or female not used to guns.

My thoughts exactly... I've been trying to invent reasons to carry the CCP instead of the shield. It's almost a half inch larger in every direction though. I know I will own that firearm at some point anyhow!

As I see the CCP won't be big competition for the Shield..The one thing I wish the USA Mfg's would work on is a slide that racks easily like the CCP seems to have...I hate tough to rack slides and my wife can`t rack any of my pistols so I had to purchase revolvers for around the house...She really doesn`t like revolvers...

So I`m going to look at the Walther and if the slide racks as easy as it looks I`ll buy one...It won't replace my Shield though..it's to big

There are easy ways to rack a slide: Stand sideways to downrange, keeping the gun downrange and push the slide and frame toward the center, keeping your elbows slightly upward, out of the line of fire. Google "racking the slide" will produce a few videos of this.

I was at a range where a woman dropped her PPS on the concrete and the backstrap came off. There is a toggle under the backstrap that disables the gun when it comes off. I don't like the idea of that. If I drop an M&P or a Glock, it will most likely still work.

Thanks for the tip...I happen to do that method and yes it makes a bit easier..I've had 1911's for years that were tight guns and it took for ever to loosen up...

I saw a video of the CCP and the woman racked the slide with what looked like little effort...It proves that when they want to do something they can... With the influx of women buying and shooting guns it could be some Mfg`s are doing what many wish to have "a slide that racks easily" I would also like to see that..I had one gun that if I racked the slide a couple of times in a roll I could see tiny shaves of my skin in the grooves.. that's just silly..so maybe it will catch on before my fingers get worn out

I really like the looks of the gun. I know that has nothing to do with the functionality of the gun. And I would never buy a gun because of its looks. But i really like how it looks.

You wouldn't have that problem with a CCP. It was easily the easiest to rack semi auto I've ever tried. I can't think of anyone that would have a hard time with it.

I owned a PPS 9mm when I bought my 9mm Shield. They are very close in size.

The PPS was slightly more accurate. The Shield had a slightly better trigger.

I told myself one had to go.

I still own a Shield.

I haven't had a chance to handle the CCP. But I have to admit I am very curious...

It's an interesting concept and would probably be good for a first time shooter but, good luck finding one.
I've been curious just to handle one and see it personally but, I've checked all over town and not only does nobody have one, they don't know when or even IF they can get one.

To the best of my knowledge, they haven't been released yet. The target date is July, from what I heard at the NRA convention.

I don't think that's comparing apples to apples. The CCP is not meant to compete with the Shield, that's what the PPS is for. I'd say the CCP is more meant to fit between, size wise, the double-stack (even though the CCP is a single) compacts (G26, M&Pc, etc.) and the single ultra compacts (Shield, PPS, Nano). It seems like Walther positioned themselves in between these two markets?

I agree that this falls between the two sizes... But I bet that they are hoping to pull from the group of people who might consider the Shield, but want to have a full grip and (I'd you believe the advertising) a smoother shot with low recoil. It remains to be seen if this ends up being a size people will demand of other companies, or of it will go the way of Betamax movies. =)
