I need to see my M&P 9mm shield. I only shot it twice with a total of like 190 rounds. I need to know what a fair price to sell it for..only had about 5 months and like i said only shot 190 rounds so its still not warn in since they say you should shoot 300 rounds until you put anything but brass in it. Anyone have a clue what a fair price is?

My general rule of thumb for any used but not used up gun is half the retail price ,,,, but in this case I would offer no more than $150.

I bought a new shield for $379 and about a year later I sold it at auction for $415. Not sure why someone would pay more for a used one than you can buy a new one. I guess people get carried away. I do feel that you can do a lot better than $150

Now that the G43 is available, this is not a good time to try and get a GOOD price. While there ARE those looking for a Shield, many are figuring they'll be finding them at 'Bargain Basement' prices, rather than paying a decent price for a 'Lightly Used' excellent condition one.

For many, it doesn't matter if 100 rounds, or 10000 rounds were put through it... They figure "Used is Used" and will only pay 50%-65% of their LGS's (or internet) NIB price.

I'd suggest starting at 80% the current NIB prices (forget whatever you got into it). If no bites in a week or two, drop it by $50 and go another two weeks.

Wow let me know when your selling! I'd say 20% of retail is fair for a used gun in good condition 10-15% for perfect factory condition

If you are going to sell it I would do it soon. I'm not sure if it's because of the new Glock that just came out but I was at a gun show yesterday in Charlotte. The prices on the Shield have gone down some since the last show I was at. I didn't buy one but the best price I found yesterday was $339.00, and I didn't try to haggle on that price since I wasn't in the market for one. I might have done better offering cash, who knows?? If some people start dumping Shields to buy the Glock it might drive down the price on the used ones.

You have to keep up with what a gun is selling for. I just saw it the same as another poster for $339.
Walk into any gun shop & try to sell a gun, barely used, used, or used & taken good care of are all the same. You have to know a lot about them to even guess the difference.
That said it was only an offer if you want to pay 300 by all means do , I am sure it will be a good gun.
For me if the price ' on a low price gun ' is 3/4 the new price I will go with factory new :)

You never know what a good deal you can get if you do not offer.
I offered a guy $100 for an old shotgun. winn. model 12 12g pump. got it home looked up the serial # & it was made in 1919.
Cleaned up real nice , shoots fine , gun shows sell them for $700 or $800.

I would say $200-$250. They sell them at gun shows new for $339 where I live. I tried to trade/sell a perfect glock 23 yesterday and was offered $225-250. Needless to say I kept it

If I put my Shield 9 on consignment at my LGS, they would take 15% (member rate). I would need to ask $50 less than retail to get attention. Mind you I figure that I would (potentially) have to pay shipping for warranty work, not being the original owner, so I want a $60 discount off retail to buy.

So:
Retail was 400 including tax.
Buyer wants $60 off for anticipated warranty shipping cost, as there has to be something wrong with the gun to be selling it.

Price is now $340.
Commission is $51.
I get $289.

Sell it to a friend for $325 if you can.

Would you tell your friend they could get one factory new for only $14 more ?

I think gun prices are on a downward trend , used guns will follow so what you paid will have nothing to do with the worth of it.

The fairest price is probably where you think the buyer paid too little and buyer thought he paid too much.

To price something, I always ask myself what discount I personally would require to buy a gun used vs. new. Especially when it's a gun like a Smith that, by the book anyway, has a non-transferrable lifetime service policy. In my opinion, there's a certain value added to be the original owner. All may not feel the same.

But to me, I'd have to have a significant discount off new to buy used. If I can spend just $40-50 more to get a new gun that I know I won't have any warranty questions on, I'll do that instead. With new Shields selling for the $350-380 range pretty consistently (some a touch lower, sure), I'd be looking at the $300 area to price a used one.

I recently bought a new M&P 9, and it just didn't pay to try to negotiate with folks on Armslist. There were a number of M&P 9s locally, probably bought for $550-600 a few years ago, priced at $500 used, or even $450. Sorry, guys...LGS has them for $499 all day long...and online they're even cheaper than that. Heck, even Gander Mtn or Field and Steam has them for $499 on sale.

Especially for the full size guns, sellers have to be aware of the 3 free mags promo going on right now...it's got to be hard to sell a full size or compact at the moment...

Use it on a trade for something you want
If the OP is looking for the easiest way to go, this would be it...
But as a trade, he'd probably be lucky to get 50%-60% of what his LGS is selling them for NIB. Figuring a store is going to need to mark it up to 20%-30% less than a new one, in order to sell it and make a profit on it, they're simply not going to give much in trade.
