4 inch or 4.25 inch

Friday deal soon but if it does I'll need to decided which one to get. I'm leaning towards the 4.25" 17 round. Any thoughts?

Go compact. I've found that the fit to my hand is better with the compact, the shorter barrel seems to balance better, and if you like 17-rounds, you can use the 17-round mags in it with the sleeve adapters.

I have large paws, that being said the shield fits well. Thanks for your input.

You don't need concealment for home protection, nor will 1/4" make a difference in the vehicle. Get the full size or the compact with an extended mag. Easier to handle and easier to be accurate at the range with the longer sight radius.

The 4" is the perfect balance. Better ergonomics and shoots like a dream. Handles every type of round.

I have a shield and I went and bought the 3.6” 9c.

If you have any thought of carry with your new gun for capacity etc, then i would say get the compact. Even if 4 inch as stated above have the choice of 15 rounds or 17 rounds. But with the 4.25” you ONLY have the 17 round choice. All that additional option and you only “give up” 1/4 of an inch!

To me the choice is clear.

Buy the one that balances and feels best in your hands. My opinion is that there is not enough difference to worry about 1/4" and two rounds.

Thanks for your input. I was looking to get a medium sized 9MM. Already have full size G17 9MM and G22 40 Cal.
After getting the Shield, I'm looking for a medium and the M&P 2.0 Compact 9MM W/4 Inch Barrel and 15 Round Mags would be the equivalent as the G19 So I'm going to get this (see the Link).

Edit note: The recommendation for the Compact with 17 round mags W/Spacer pretty much made up my mind.

Exactly. If you can't do what you need to do with 15 rds, then chances of 2 more doing it are pretty bleak...might help, probably not......and extra accuracy from that 1/4" is insignificant. Fit and confidence in your hand is MUCH more important....JMHO

I own both the compact and full size 2.0 9mm. And I agree with everyone else that the Compact is the way to go. With the sleeve adapters, the 17 round mag and grip feels identical to the 17 round model. And a quarter of an inch in Barrel really won’t make that much of a difference when considering the barrel Is already 4 inches. The real benefit of velocity increase would surface and scale dramatically at 2.5-3.5” barrels, but 4”, not as dramatic of a change.

I just bought the 4.25 and wouldn't change. I love the bigger gun, much more accurate. I have plenty of smaller pistols so went with the full size. Here in Orlando Academy sports has the 4.0 on sale for 449 and you get a 75 dollar academy card.

Personally, I am opposite. I went with the 4.25 over the compact. Being someone with big hands and a large frame, the FS just fits me better. And i can conceal it just as well as something Glock 19 sized with the extra two rounds, in case of zombie ninja pirates.

In the end, it depends on what fits YOU better.

Medium sized hands, and I prefer the compact variant of the few pistols I have owned both of. Examples, I prefer a 19 over a 17/45/19X, M2.0 Compact over the full size, I have not shot the 3.6, but I would like to, only one I did not prefer the compact grip over the full size, is the Beretta 92, I like the compact just not more than the full size grip, I actually prefer my Centurion Tactical over those 3 options.

I have largish hands, and went with the S&W M&P 9mm 2.0 Compact 3.6". I love it, as it also comes with a 17 round mag OEM, while having the 15 rounder to make it slightly smaller. I find it is balanced perfectly, and happy I bought it instead of even the 4". And, all my older 17 round mags still work in it! Extra adapters can be bought from Smith for a buck apiece.

I've carried for a lot of years and how learned a few things along the way . Some times the handgu8n you carry is not as important as the holster . I not luck to be a skinny guy . I'm 5-9 and 225lb and I have used one holster for the last 16 years , a comp-tac neutral at 3:00 set high with only enough cant to hip the butt end of the mags but there MTAC holster would work just as well . For the last 4.5 years my EDC has been a P320c with a compact small grip module to skinny it up for better concealment in a p250 kydex body on it for the p320 . Few p320 holster back then . My wife has a m&p 4.25 core , I also have a glock 19 that works in my rig but I don't CC that , a lw commander and s&w 669 I do carry some times as my smaller carry option . The P320 compact is between the M&P 4.25 and the compact for height at 5.28 "

This holster is flexible enough I can carry all the pistols mention in it when the belt is snugged up .

I can conceal any of these pistols under a loose pull over shirt at 3:00, Not a sloppy shirt , just loose . Depends on brand with t shirts and I wear square bottom button down shirts . My wife carried a m&p9c for a few years and carried full size mags as back up . I carry full size p320 mags too . No x grip thangy needed .

I would not buy the 3.6" model . Many times a 4" barrel alone does not effect how you carry unless the grips way shorter too or skinnier but many times the longer holster can make the grip area of your pistol carry tighter to your body do to leverage to your body so might as well carry the .4ths longer handgun . With a good holster you won't notice the couple oz weight difference between any of them .

You could buy an carry a M&P 4.25 CORE . You may have good eye sight now but a red dot can make bullets on target easier as eye sight goes away and the longer sight radius does not hurt in the mean time . Just a old CC guys opinion .
