I have an M&P 40 5”. I’d like to cut for an optic, I think. The current pistol has a cocking indicator….so that is a no go, right?

So, I ask….can this slide replace my current one as an interchangeable drop in?…LINK

….or is fitting likely required?

If yours is a 2.0 everything s/b the same: with my 1.0s I need to have the recess for the slide release on the left of the side modified (needs a longer rectangular slot than the short "half moon" of the 2.0)... You will lose the hold open feature after the last round as well.

There is another thread about this specific application, with my post about the other parts needed to finish the slide. Mine functions just fine and is extremely accurate with an aftermarket 9mm 5" barrel.

Cheers!

Just a few things to note.

1. It's a loaded chamber indicator (LCI), not a cocking indicator. It's important because the barrel has a square notch for the LCI arm, not the "peep hole" style like the others. Your barrel should fit but the "holes" won't match. While the ability to check if a round is in the chamber may be reduced, I think this is more of a "cosmetic" issue.

2. Just to make sure you're aware, that's a completely stripped slide so you'll need a few other parts. My suggestion is to buy them and install them in the new slide rather than swap them from your old one. That way you lessen the risk of buggering your original slide and make it way easier to swap back and forth whenever you want.

As Storminorman said, as long as you're M&P is a 2.0 it should drop right it.

For the LEO Trade-In M&P 40 I got I just put a dovetail plate on it and a Vortex Viper red dot, that is on sale at Optics Planet. I'm using the same UTG plate from Amazon, with a Venom, on a M&P 2.0 45, and have had no problems with it after at least 1000 rounds.

The Viper is the Optics Planet OPMOD version in FDE, but given that the pistol is far from pristine, and the plate was $18, pistol $275, and the red dot $160, I really don't care since it all works :)
