I'm a big fan of cross draw holsters. They're comfortable and out of the way when walking, working outside, sitting, or driving- and I think it's ergonomically faster and easier to draw from a cross draw holster than from a traditional strong side belt holster (e.g. Bat Masterson, Wild Bill Hickok, Doc Holliday, Chuck Norris/Walker Texas Ranger). LOL! But like with any type of gun and holster (strong side, cross draw, shoulder, chest, AIWB, etc.), it takes lots of practice to draw and re-holster SAFELY and efficiently. I have one of Bob Mernickle's carved CD holsters for my .44 HE W&K Model of 1926; a Lobo Gunleather CD holster for my Model 627-5 snubby; a Ross driving holster and a Galco CD holster for my 4" N-frames (Model 27, 28, and 29); a vintage Buchheimer suede clip-on for my Model 15-2 snubby; a SIG holster set up for CD for my P226 SAO Legion; and a Blackhawk SERPA and Blackhawk Omnivore holster (set up CD) for my 4.6" S&W 10mm 2.0 with Holosun 507C red dot and Nightstick light. All of the manufacturers listed in these posts make very good holsters. First of all, you need to decide upon your holster material: leather, kydex, or combo. Good luck choosing!

I haven't been a fan of standard holsters with a spare magazine pouch as an integral part of the system because it seems awkward to try to reach over to the other side with the non-shooting hand to access the magazine. However, this thread got me to thinking that a cross-draw holster with integral magazine pouch, might be handy. Does anyone make one of these?

You tube has a cross draw holster video. " Andrews Custom leather carjacker holster". Total video is @ 35 mins. Looks pretty cool.

Always be careful when mentioning crossdraw. A lot of people who have no clue what they're talking about will try to crucify you with their own uneducated opinions. I have seen some of the stupidest remarks from people who obviously have no experience at all with crossdraw.

I used to sometimes shoot one of my Ruger Vaqueros out of a cross draw holster back in my cowboy action shooting days. You had to be very careful to step correctly to avoid sweeping anyone. I switched to standard holsters so I didn't have to think about it any more.

HOWEVER!

When driving in a motor vehicle, cross draw is a top notch idea. Bending your strong side arm backwards to reach your gun whilst driving is not as easily done as reaching across your body to reach your gun.

Do I do it?

No.

But I have. And I might do it again, one never knows. ;)

The thing to remember is that you are not a 17th century cavalier trying to draw with as much flourish as possible. If drawn properly it's almost impossible to "sweep" the gun in any direction. It's far easier to sweep the crowd when drawing from the 4 o'clock position many seem to favor. By the way, I've carried crossdraw for just over 8 years daily and have never encountered any of the issues guys claim to happen.
