Question Bushnell TRS-25

Amazon has this red dot for $68. I was thinking about getting a red dot for my Sport 1 and was looking at the TRS-25. I don't wear glasses, but, do use a #1.25 reading glasses, if that helps any with my decision.
Opinions on THIS red dot ONLY, please!

Can't comment on the red dot, but Primary Arms has it for 59.99 as part of their Columbus Day sale.

I just put a Tru Glo red dot on my sport II and it works great! I to have to wear..... As I call them "Cheaters" 1.50 I decided that I was not going to spend a lot of money on my first red dot it was about $100.00 bucks or so and i'm very happy with it. They even have a less expensive model for about $50.00 at Bass Pro. I have mine setup on my rail so I can shoot with both eyes open. You can get from target to target very fast and accurate. Good luck!

I like mine... The TRS-25 has been a great choice. Shooting both eyes open and focusing on the target down range is great. Adjust the light setting down so it is not to bright overpowering your target. I prefer this one over the Bushnell FF3 that I had.

This used to be a great budget plinking dot but there have been changes in the last year or so which have not been popular. The newer version seems to wash out with greater frequency than the older one.

I would get a Primary Arms over this one these days.

Yep, as WVSig said, these were the gold standard of cheap red dots at one time. And then they changed them... and reviews of late are not as favorable.

If you get one, you want to find one with the emitter at about 4:30... the problem is that you can't see this with it in the blister pack. When I bought mine, they came in a box.

I've had a couple that have been great as a small/ budget red dot for about 10 years..........

know nothing about the new ones!

PA seems to have two versions ......... $80 and $170 second generation with long battery life and good feed back from members here!

Reading glasses have nothing to do with anything. However, those with corrected distance vision who don't use it while shooting will likely see a horrible looking red dot. That applies to all 1x red dot optics.

As far as the new TRS-25 vs old ones... I don't know. China-made quality control of dime store optics is what it is. If a supplier runs out of product I imagine they use an alternative supplier in a heartbeat to keep the labor camps in operation and perhaps switch back to the original supplier a week or month later... who knows? And really, for $68.... If ya don't like it return it to Amazon or put it on something else that it might better serve. I think Palmetto had the TRS-25 with AR mount riser for $59 last week. They were under $50 before Christmas last year.

We had a discussion a few months ago about the PA Advanced micro dot. Some guys reported a significant amount of magnification/image shift. When retuned for a new one the issue wasn't present. Magic? Different suppliers on different production runs?

I currently have one on my S&W Sport II and love it.. I like the ability to change the brightness of the red dot and mine does not seem to wash out... I have shot several hundred rounds through my rifle and the little TRS-25 has never changed POI. I have had zero problems with mine.. Would buy another....

Nice guessing and speculation based on limited data as to the origin and issues surrounding Chinese manufactured red dots. Not sure what you mean by "labor camps."

At some time in production Bushnell for some reason changed the location of the emitter from four o'clock position to six o'clock. Some say this causes the dot to be off center.

There are 3 distinct versions of the sight which have reached the consumer.

-Gold/yellow Bushnell logo has brightest dot intensity and is easy to pick up the dot against a white background in full sunlight. IIRC this is the original version.

-Pale/light green Bushnell logo is second brightest and dot can still be seen against white background in full sun. This version is still a good dot that does not wash out but is not as bright as the original.

-White Bushnell logo is the dimmest of the three and is hard to see against a white background and in bright sunlight. You really have to focus on it to find it in those lightening conditions. IIRC this is the version where the emitter was moved.

So Bushnell did a little more than just change the supplier of parts IMHO. They changed the design a bit and have caused the decline in performance of the optic.

I can't speak to the issues with the Primary Arms Advanced dot definitively but it sounds like there was a batch of defective optics.

I just checked my TRS-25.. I have one of the Made in China ones with the white lettering.. However, my emitter is at the 4 o'clock position and not at the 6 o'clock position.. Like I said above, I am very happy with mine... I just checked my red dot against the white building across the street and I have no problem seeing the red dot when I have my intensity setting at 3, shows up really good at setting 5.. My setting goes from 1 to 11. Can't ever see needing the 11 setting...

When did you purchase yours? They may have heard the complaints or it is possible that ChattanoogaPhil supplier speculation could also be at play.

5MOA is a little on the large side for my taste. For that money, I'd just go with the PA micro dot or TRS-25 (flip a coin), if you really want spend an extra $20-25 take a look at the Lucid HD7 G3, or the Black spider optics (aka spikes tactical) red dot.

I could have written this myself. I got mine for Christmas last year (2015). I haven't used it much but I have no complaints just using at the range ~<50 yds. As it was a gift, I think with mount it cost a little over $100 from Optics Planet. If it can be had as inexpensive as folks here say, it think it's worth the try.

I have the Bushnell Trophy, actually the older version that is red only. I have it on my .22lr AR and really like it. I like to change the reticles for different types of shooting. It is a fun optic on my fun gun! However, I bought it from Cabela's bargain cave for $30 with the sole intention of mounting it to a .22lr to play with.

Primary Arms are a solid choice for inexpensive red dots. They stand behind their product on the off chance you get a bad one.

Default Bushnell TRS-25

After reading the trials and tribulations Primary Arms suffered trying to spec an optic with one of the Chinese labor camp factories there's no telling why or what goes on at the factories.

The biggest issue with the emitter at 6 o'clock on these microdot copy size optics is for users who want lower 1/3 cowitness. With the tube being so small combined with an emitter sticking up at the bottom, the front sight post is reduced to small nub with the emitter intruding into the rear aperture. Primary Arms had this issue with their micros several years ago when they first began to sell them. I posted pics of it over at the PA section of ARF at the time. I've still got that one I use on a Ruger pistol which the emitter position is a non-issue. A couple years ago PA got a shipment of red dots from China due to a buyer going belly up or whatever. IIRC, all of those micros had the emitter at the bottom too. So who knows... the factories slap whatever label on em and out the door they go.

Primary Arms does (or at least did) a good job of cursory inspection prior to mailing, culling out obvious defects. I think that's a major reason they earned such a good reputation.
