I am thinking of purchasing a Trijicon RMR RM07-33 to install on my new S&W Performance Centre Model 41.

Has anyone done this, and can we see a photo please. Maybe PM me.

If the Trijicon is installed with the supplied mount on the Picatinny optics rail, is this the correct height to still see the regular pistol front and rear sights?

Finally, are you happy with this setup?

Thanks, Sunbird, Australia

Welcome to the forum. I do not have these setup but based on the pictures on the Trijicon website it looks like this sight would be too tall for you to co-witness the factory iron sights. You might be able to contact Trijicon and get a dimensioned drawing so you could measure this before you purchase.

Do you have any photos of your pistol? I haven't seen many of that PC model. I know photos are out there but I like seeing different ones.

I'll show you mine (non-PC) if you show me yours :D

Never happened with out Pics. Welcome to the forum.

The Performance Centre Model 41 has an integral Picatinny rail for optics. This has been provided especially for the mounting of optics such as red dot sights so hopefully with the extra height front and rear sights they will co-witness.

The Permit To Aquire (PTA) which is required here in Australia to purchase any firearm should arrive in about two weeks. The M41 and Trijicon RM07-33 are now both in Australia and in transit to my LGS.

Photos and a report will be up around mid December.

The PTA (Permit To Aquire ) has arrived from Weapons Licensing so plan to pick up the PC M41 Monday.

I have spent hundreds of hours pouring over internet sites reading up on M41's. Thanks for the wonderful info I have gleaned.

I agree you will enjoy this gun for many years to come. Remember to use CCI SV ammo if you can get it and you will not have any problems with it.

Well Guys,

I picked up the brand new PC M41 5.5 inch today. In the LGS it looked superb.

Problems in no particular order:-

I ordered and paid for a total of 4 magazines. Nothing said, but when asked why there were only two, a phone call advised us that the other 2 are on back order and that I now had credit until they arrived.

The manual included in the grey plastic case is for a 1911, not a Model 41.
Another phone call to be advised that I can download one from the internet. A bit disappointing.

Ok, so time to take it home for a clean and lubrication before heading out to the range tomorrow. We could not get the barrel off. Very stiff. Another call to the Australian Import agent to be advised that this is normal and the barrel must be hit on the muzzle end with a rubber mallet to "dislodge" the barrel. After much wiggling it eventually came off. We were advised that the pistol would be full of grit making it difficult to remove the barrel.

After a thorough clean and blast with compressed air and an oil lubrication as per the instructions we could not close the trigger guard. It was locked up. After much fiddling and gently tapping the top of the barrel with a rubber mallet it did eventually move and close without the barrel in-situ.

Still would not close until top of barrel was tapped down with rubber mallet to get it to seat properly.

So far, it is a bit disappointing as this is supposed to have been put together by master craftsmen at the Performance Centre. I suspect this is not the case.

Tomorrow it will be "run in" at the range with a follow up report.

The RMR is due in the next shipment.

Maybe Rugers / Buckmarks have better QC!

Sorry for the rant. Sunbird

That is a disappointing report. I have an older 41 with both the 5 1/2" and 7 3/8" barrel w/ compensator. I wanted to mount a red dot sight but did not want to d&t either barrel, so I bought a 7" barrel. It fits the frame and locks up perfectly. I have a Docter sight mounted, and it makes a nice package. You will enjoy the Trijicon. Hopefully the frame to barrel fit will wear in.

Sunbird,
I had the same barrel removal issues with a new 41 I purchased in the mid 80's. Not to worry, it will work it's way in and be as smooth as butter after a few take downs. Once you shoot it your disappointment will disappear. :)

Range Report.

This morning I had the opportunity to sight in the pistol. As delivered from the Performance Centre at 25 Yards it shot small 1.5 inch groups 3 inches low and 1 inch to the right from a soft pillow rest.

Using CCI Standard Velocity Target ammo I had about five Failures to Eject.

Also a couple of times the first cartridge failed to load properly. However, after about 100 rounds there were no further issues which should be a good sign. I have to rack the slide before inserting the magazine then release it to load the first round. Is this normal?

All in all I genuinely believe it will "loosen" up and be a good accurate shooter.

When the targets were moved in to 10 yards I was getting sub 1" groups holding the pistol in my hand resting on a cushion.

Looking forward to receiving the RMR and another day at the range.

I have not cleaned it yet.

I don't understand. The pistol is brand new but it did not come with the original box or manual? Whacking a new and expensive pistol to take it apart don't sound right either.

Whacking the muzzle with a rubber mallet is exactly what the Australian agent Grycol International told us to do. It worked, combined with a couple of minutes pulling and tugging. After reassembling we again had to repeat the whacking to remove the barrel. Hope it gets easier.

Do you think I have the right to insist on receiving an original manual in lieu of downloading one which is what Glycol told me to do?

I wonder if Smith and Wesson read these postings?

Thanks, Sunbird

I have a new PC model 41 I picked up about a year ago. I had the same issues with the bbl sticking when I went to re assemble it after cleaning. I also had issues with mags sticking unless I had the slide open.

After about 12000 rounds the re assemble issue was gone. The other issue for me was mag related. Good luck finding mags...

"After about 12000 rounds"
You are either a prolific shooter or maybe you added one to many 0's. If your are the prolific shooter I salute you!

Sunbird:
I would politely ask for a original manual as you did buy the brand new in box, right? As for tapping the muzzle with a mallet, when I first got my brand new Model 41 after dropping the magazine and releasing the trigger guard the barrel just lifted off. Never needed to tap the barrel to loosen. Shoots dime size holes from rest since new. As for magazines, Smith and Wesson may have them in stock. Midwayusa are out of stock but you can back order them.

Thanks maiublue,

The Australian import agent has agreed to supply an original manual which is good news. I have to get the magazines from the importer as no-one else will ship to Australia without first obtaining Export / Import licences which is expensive. They are on backorder which means that if S & W have some they might make their way here....

My daughter has wrapped up the RMR and put it under the Xmas tree so I will not know if it will fit the M41 until after Xmas!

Thanks guys for the feedback, nice to be in the "club".

Glad to have you with us as well Sunbird, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from Canada also.
