$1,000 to spend on a 9mm... Which one?

My top picks for thousand. dollar 9's

5. Sig 226
4. Rorbaugh
3. Hi Power
2. 39 no dash
1. 39-2 AND 59 or mint 2nd gen

Well the alloy framed HP came in... really dirty. Hard to believe the trigger even worked as much gunk and grime was caked into the mechanism. Full strip and clean was a necessity. New springs, and a ambi extended safety puts me into it at $550. Now the only question left is Novak sights, or S&W old school? Then of course a trip to get hard chromed.

When given the chance to purchase a J.M. Browning design vs anything else I stand with Mr. Browning.... That said the Hi Power was designed as a 9mm, and he knew more about pistol design then I. The only reason not to own a Hi Power is if carrying with one in the tube and the hammer back bothers you.... But then you have the same trouble with the 1911 as well.

Some of the pistols mentioned are based on the Hi Power design such as the CZ or the Sig. They are all nice guns. Older HP's are are readily available and can fit your budget. I prefer them to the newer models. I don't think you can make a mistake with any of the ones mentioned. You should try and shoot a few before you choose. You can expect as as many opinions as there are guns. Good luck.

I have to go with the prevailing wisdom here & say...HI-POWER! Super dependable, super accurate. Or, how about a Model 6906? With your budget, you could get a pristine example & have plenty left over.:D
