How long am I going to have to wait to get a shield? I realize they are popular but seriously? If there is that big of a demand can the not just concentrate on one specific model and slow down production on other pistols?

These guns first came out a year ago and I immediately placed an order with my LGS which does quite a bit of business and it took six week from the first week these weapons were sold, mine is a 40 caliber it took six weeks last year and I was 2nd on a waiting list soon after that many people waited for months like 3 or 4 so you are lucky to only have to wait one month.

Smith and Wesson is currently operating 3 shifts to produce weapons you can hardly ask for them to concentrate on one gun just because you want your quickly, you will get it when you do and be thankful it is not a six month wait!

I have had one on order since the beginning of December 2012 and was told to expect it in October 2013! My buddy ordered one from the same place last October and it just arrived last week so i know progress is being made I just have to be patient. I have seen a couple at a few gun stores but i'm not willing to pay $650 for a $350-$400 gun.

You can do what I did, and buy another compact. 2 weeks after I bought my 709, both my local stores called to tell me my shield was in, now I have two great sub compacts.

Keep checking Kitterytradingpost. Last week they sold 500 Shields in 3 1/2 days. I was fortunate enough to get one at $429 + $35 for overnight shipping.
They don't show any now, but someone on the forum said they are supposed to get more.

I've been seeing them quite a bit at one of the larger LGS's in my area so hopefully that is a good sign for those still waiting for one.

I think once Springfield releases their XDS in 9mm that may slow the demand for the Shield a bit....I have it in .45 and will def be adding the 9 once it comes out

Kittery is a good place to deal with...maybe an hour from my house, may take a trip up there this weekend

See my post, #274 in this thread...

http://smith-wessonforum.com/showthread.php?p=137153330

I called my LGS later today and was told I'm now #1 in line. He said for a while they were getting nothing but 40s, but now he's only getting 9s.

My other LGS claims they get up to 20 per shipment. Where I ordered said they get 1-2 per week. I can't imagine the wait raylo is enduring.

As stated in the other thread, it doesn't seem right that some places get enough to sell 500 in 3 days while mom and pop LGS's have them literally trickle in.

I forgot to mention this. I asked my LGS if they had two particular revolvers in stock. He said no and that S&W has cut back revolver production to focus on the high demand of the many M&P offerings that are in higher demand.

I didn't want to pay more than I had to so I waited almost a year.

I used that time to buy three 3rd gens and a 642. ;)

May I suggest while you wait for in my opinion the finest ccw 9mm in the marketplace that you start hunting down 9 mm ammo.

I have a Shield 9mm and 2 free indoor range passes which expire May 5 but I have not been able to replenish my 9mm or 22lr supply so range trips have been 50 RDS and I am done. My 22lr supply was so pathelic I had to trade 300 RDS of 9mm for 1,500 RDS of 22lr so I could shoot my new Ruger stainless Hunter.

I promised myself if we ever see 22lr for $20 a brick and 9mm for .20 a round and available I am going to make a Homeland Security type ammo order.

Friend of mine placed an order for a .40 about 2 months ago. I think he said he was told he was 15th in line at the time and I heard this week he was all the way up to 12th!

Mine took 6 months! They already have slowed down on other weapons and parts, I have had a Model 41 7" barrel on order for over 9 months!

I know that you want what you want when you want it, but you will get what you get when you get it! :D

Placed an order 6 weeks ago at Quantico Tactical here in VA and got mine last week. Nice gun, very happy with it.

Let's see...I started looking for a Shield in December of 2011. I came close a few times, just missing out by hours in some cases. A couple of months ago I was on this Forum & somebody posted that Bud's had a new batch. Hauled tail to their site & locked one in. Two days after I ordered from Bud's my LGS called to tell me the one they had ordered for me was in. Since Bud's had already billed it to me, I couldn't cancel it. So I had to wait another ten days. What I'm saying is that a month's wait sounds pretty negligible.

Wow crazy, I wish someone would offer me 300 9mm for 1,500 .22lr - good deal!

I got my Shield by luck, my son was at the gun shop buying a .40c, he was purchasing because he liked mine. He called and sad that they had them in stock, and I made a bee line straight to the gun shop. Asked the gentleman behind the counter if they had a .40 Shield in stock, he laid it on the counter, and I said lets write up the paperwork. Easiest sale he made that day. Have your buddies, friends and family look for you as well. With enough effort you will come up with one. Bought mine at the end of Feb. during the height of the frenzy, and walked out paying $429 plus tax. At the gun shows people were paying upwards of $700 at the time. I carry this gun everyday, with 600 flawless rounds through it. I'm a huge advocate of the .40 round, it gets the job done spot on.

Well, I guess I will do what RussC suggested and start stocking up on 9mm ammo. When I got put on the list for this gun I traded in my .380 ccw gun as a down payment. Now I have no CCW gun at the moment...kind of dumb but it was the best deal in town so I jumped on it. As the LGS probably will not give me the cash to go buy it elsewhere I guess I am just going to have to wait :(

One of my stores is taking $50 deposits. The store I chose required $100 down. Some stores just put your name on a list. I think requiring a deposit, especially a sizable one, for a pistol that sells itself and has a line of buyers mile long, is a bit much. :( If you change your mind, the next guy in line is all over it. Oh well. I chose a higher deposit to pay $20 over MSRP instead of $50 over. The other store claims to get more in per shipment, too. On principle, I wasn't paying an extra $30!
