Ran across this little guy at the LGS.

It looked good, checked out well, and the price was good, so I snapped it up.

There isn't anything wrong with this gun. No rust, gouges, etc. It is just dirty, and I will fix that quickly. BTW, the grips are number-matched to the gun. :)

The serial is C877974. Can someone tell me when it was shipped?

Oh, yeah...I also put a 19-4 4" on layaway at the same place. Just a shooter, but I couldn't pass up a 19.

The SCSW isn't much help... it just says 1948-1967 for the serial number. Someone else can correct me, but it looks like the 10-5 was produced in 1962. They went through a lot of engineerinf changes quickly. So, it may be 1962.

If you only paid $319 for it, I think you got a great deal!

The non diamond stocks would be later than 1967?, I think.
Mine is 1964-65 and has diamond Magnas.

Have you shot it?
I love mine. Great shooter. It shoots like a 4". Only difference is a little more muzzle flip

I shot my snubby today. 2" 1948 M & p. Tough sights to get used too. Definetly a close quarteres gun

I forgot to add...

I already have an identical twin to the gun I purchased today.
(I'm just not one to pass up a good deal on a classic snub)

I haven't shot the "new" one yet.

Here's a pic of my other 10-5 snubby with a Pachmayr grip adapter.

I think a k/l frame fixed sight 2" gun is the best gun for concealed carry ever. Big enough to still shoot very accurately, small enough to disappear under a shirt.

Here's mine. It's a Model 10-5 produced in 1967.

Here's a group at 7 yards. The red bullseye is 1" in diameter.

Also, check here for dates: How to Identify/Date a S&W

It seems like yours was made in the same series as mine, so either 1966 or 1967.

Sweet little pistol and a great price ! My documentation shows s/ns C810,533 to C999,999 were produced in 1966 through 1967 so I would say yours was made mid 1966.

Mid 66 would be very early for non-diamond stocks. I think that change came in 1968 or was supposed to from what I heard. Maybe the gun shipped later?

I agree with the mid-1966 ship date . . . and I also agree that is early for most models to convert to the non-diamond stocks.

Based on my observation, however, the factory must have ran out of the K-frame modified (PC) diamond magnas earlier than most variations because I have seen other mid-to-late 1966 serial numbers with non-diamond PC magna matching stocks.

Just another example of how the factory must have made a conscious effort to confuse us ;)

Here's my 10-5 with non-diamond numbered stocks, produced in that same timeframe, serial C8355xx.

Excellent price for any 10 snub these days IMO.

BTW if you like carrying a Model 10 snub you will love the Airweight Model 12 snub !

Model 12's left Model 10's right
