10-9 info serial number seems wrong

So a customer came in looking for info on a new to him model 10-9. He told me the serial number is C823xxx. From reading around it seems to me that the serial number dates pre 70s but the yoke is stamped 10-9 making it post 1988. Thoughts?

Two possibilities, he is misreading the first three letters as one letter and two digits (CBZ?), or the "9" in 10-9 is actually a 5. C823xxx is likely a 1966 gun and would have a pinned barrel, but CBZ would not. Hope this is helpful.

Or, he's looking at an assembly number. Check the bottom of the grip frame for the correct serial number.
