I recently got the opportunity to trade for a 1076 and I'm curious as to some information about it. I have a strong suspicion it's an ex-LE gun, but the seller didn't know as he had bought it from someone else years ago and threw it into his safe until now. It has night sights and the palm swell grips, and a '233' etched beneath the model number rollmark which seems to me to be some sort of internal inventory number. However it has the typical front grip serrations instead of checkering and it still apparently has the magazine disconnect so I doubt it was ever an FBI gun (and the seller said he doubted it was one as well just based off the serial which starts with TFF). I contacted S&W looking for the date of manufacture but they just came back with 1991 and nothing else so I'm curious if anyone might have an idea where this gun might have come from.

I'm in the same boat and am looking forward to the responses. My 1076 was in a shop on consignment and all I know is that the owner was a retired LEO. It is a TFE xxxx.

There were 13,805 1076's made. If it has the mag disconnect it's most definitely not an FBI gun.

The lettered 1076 I have was initially shipped to Quantico, then back to Smith and then resold to the Virginia State Police before being surplused.

Spring for a Roy Jinks letter and then you'll know...
