1076 FBI trade issue

I am blessed with owning two very nice FBI 1076's. I have the boxes numbered to the guns and marked shipped to FBI, Quantico. I have been considering trying to trade one of them for a like condition 1006 obviously getting some difference. The values on the FBI model are said to be 2-3 times a normal 10mm. Recent internet sales have been as high as $2200. I don't want to rip anyone but I don't want to give anything away either. Also I would prefer a face to face from another Illinois resident. Anyone have any thoughts on any part of this?

I paid 850 for mine in January 13 with the box that says FBI, 3 mags, and no letter. It is about 95% condition. Maybe I just got a great deal.

I would sell your gun on one of the auction sites and then buy what you want. Do not let it go for a price less than you want then buy the nicest 1066 you can for the lowest price. You win all the way around.

I know that feeling. I bought an Ithaca 37 Featherweight 12 gauge shotgun once for $250. After several years I noticed some funny little flaming bombs on it. Turns out it was the rarest of the WWII trench guns and I got offered $1600 for it. After that, I decided even a blind pig finds an acorn once in a while! Often suggested on this site as a reference book, "Standard Catalog of Smith & Wesson" by Supica and Nahas P. 297 is the source for 2 to 3 times normal value. I would say you got a deal!

James that is very likely good advice. Finding someone who has what you want and wants what you have and in the right location can be a real problem.

Personally I don't think you will be able to get what I think they are worth. I could be wrong though. I also had two confirmed FBI 1076's and sold one on one of the major auction sites a couple months ago. It didn't have a box, but was in really good shape and was TEU prefix, which I thought would bring a premium. It sold for something like $1300. There was one that sold on the same auction site about a month previous too, that was in really good shape with the box and paperwork that went for around $1500. I think right now is just a bad time for those type of valued guns. I believe everyone has blown alot of what spare cash they may have had during the panic buying. I don't think everyone was in the panic mode either. I think alot of guns started turning up that wouldn't have normally, because people started seeing the prices some were bringing. I believe this presented a more than normal amount of opportunities for those people out there in the market for very specific guns. Just my thoughts.

I think this is a spot on observation. I can't recall any recent sales of an FBI 1076 that went for anything over $1300. But it can certainly depend on condition as well as what serial numbers. I don't think people value the TEU ones as much as the later issued models but that is just my opinion. Now, I wouldn't sell mine for twice what I paid for it ($600 like new, no box).

I also think leading up to Christmas, people have other priorities with their cash. I've also noticed that other sought after S&Ws have also stopped moving as much. All summer I was watching for a nice 3913 but they kept going higher and higher. Today, the demand seems a lot slower. Although I will say the recent 1066 and 1086 sales have been in the high $800 range as I was watching them.

If you can wait, it may make sense to wait until people start getting their tax returns next year. But right now, Christmas spending seems to be taking the focus away from collectible guns.
